Root Virgin Message

So from what I read, there will be a general, network-wide speed reduction starting next year.

In that case:

Yes people if you are abusing the data and usage please stop, this ruins it for everyone because Virgin will just put more and more limits on data and 4g. You don't need to hot spot or tether or whatever without buying the plan. Quit using 50 or more gigabytes of data, that's crazy.

It's not the people that are abusing the data, it's the carrier not having the space we all need. Just what did they think would happen when they started offering phones at 3g speeds, and now 4g/LTE, with 2 & 4 processors? Did they actually think that the bandwidth they had would still handle it all? And now, they want to try to cut everybody back because their network can't handle the phones they have developed to handle more in the first place. It's just like these 4g/LTE phones. They sold the phones first, now they want to expand the network. In my world, that's called going out the world backwards.
Martin Lawrence said it best in one of his stand-up routines......."Ride it til the wheels fall off".

So from what I read, there will be a general, network-wide speed reduction starting next year.

Now, as stated:
Speed Reduction for Beyond Talk Monthly Plans * Once the system is updated, we will begin throughput speed reduction for the Beyond Talk Monthly plans on all devices. To ensure all customers have reliable access to data services, we will begin implementation of throughput speed reduction, once the established threshold is reached. * To help ensure you're aware of your throughput limiting status, we'll send you a message when 85% of the data threshold has been used, and again when you've reached 100% of your data threshold and speeds will be reduced.

Which means, when you reach 2.125GB (85% of your threshold) you will receive a notice, then at 2.5GB the throughput speed reduction will be in effect...

Certainly didn't say anything about a general, network wide speed reduction. Only for those that break the threshold.

Some areas were not being throttled at all, regardless of how much data you used. This is being corrected.

Also, they may finally start actually monitoring our use.

In either case, if you don't use over 2.5gigs, you won't see a difference, and if your speeds are already slow, it won't change even after you exceed 2.5 gigs.

Lots of panicking for nothing.

The speeds are slow enough and the storage is expandable enough to where I never even hit the threshold. Even with netflix use here and there on 3G (even though battery life is horrid at least for me) I never hit the limit.

Also, basically what I see from this is that they'll actually watch the EVO and any other phone. The Evo was not monitored, at least for me.

I've switched phones willy nilly and the Evo was the only one where I would log into my account and have it say Data Allotment: Unlimited MB.

If only tracking minutes were as poorly done as tracking data on this, haha.

Highly doubt it, unfortunately :( its not like this is a contract plan. Then it would be slightly different. As of now though, its one of those things where all they're gonna say is, "Don't like it? You don't have to stay."

Completely agree with that I can't stand the fact that they throttle the "as of already" crappy service lol the only reason I like Sprint is because they're the only service that has unlimited data!

Throttling might actually help improve speeds so that one person can't hog all the bandwidth in your area.

Do we know how slow the throttle speeds are? I was considering trying to tether my phone to my tablet. I usually watch netflix on it and that obviously takes up a few gigs a month, but the wifi I use is very slow. The only thing I would use it for it browsing web/netflix, obviously not downloading huge amounts of data.

3g has been throttled at 2.5gb for a long time, while 4g hasnt. this is an unclear version of the terms. when i got this message last month, it clarified they are referring to 4g phones. the text was changed because people probably assumed 3g was being unthrottled, and 4g throttled instead. now, they just have "all phones"

tldr: theyre throttling 4g speeds at 2.5 gb. speed and data limit may vary, thus no direct numbers listed.

So in that case, we have 2.5gb of 3g and 4g data to burn through so to speak? or 5gb I guess?
