Hi all.

I am new to andriod phones. I just purchased a Galaxy S3.

1) I have three browsers on my phone, Firefox and Opera and one I don't know the name of.... It came with the phone and it just says "Internet". Do I need three browers? My Firefox is synced to my laptop, which is nice. Or is three taking up too much space? My device Storage says 12GB and Available says 10.81GB

2) I have all the most-used apps on the first page and I have emptied the other six. (Why are there 7 pages on the home page of the S3?). But all these apps are repeated under the Apps app-icon. I don't understand this. I've tried to delete them but they don't go away? ...and while I'm at it, do I need both Samsung Apps and the Play Store? Do these not serve the same function?

Thanks,

Frank

There is no need for multiple browsers unless you want them because you like certain browsers for certain functions. Most phones come with at least one browser pre-installed. Mine came with Chrome. I now use Boat. You can get rid of all of the ones you don't want. If the program is integrated into the phone (often referred to as bloatware) by your carrier then you won't be able to uninstall it. Since you have so much memory still left you don't have to delete anything any time soon.

I don't have an SE so I can't answer your questions about the home pages. Mine came with a few and I am able to create or remove as many as I want. I now use Nova Prime as my Launcher so I only have three pages anyway and use folder icons to gather apps of similar types into a single icon.

You might want to have a moderator move this post over to the S3 forum where you will get a ton of knowledgeable answers on the S3 specific questions.

Methos already answered your first question correct so I don't need to deal with that question.

On my Galaxy S2 there were also 7 home screens so I guess it's either the default which Samsung put into their phones, or they just put so many on the Galaxy phones. I don't think there's any reason why there's so many screens apart from the fact that there's more space to put apps and widgets.
As mentioned though, using a custom launcher such as Apex, Nova, ADW etc. will let you delete all the home screens you are not using.

The way your apps are displayed twice, both on different filters, is made that way so it gives the user different options instead of just having all your apps all over the place.
Again, this can be sorted by using one of the custom launchers already mentioned.

You don't need to have both the Play Store and the Samsung App Store, but it can be good to have both. Play Store is the main app store as it will contain a much bigger variety of apps. Samsung App Store doesn't have anywhere near as many apps as the Play Store, BUT every now and again you'll be able to install a paid app for free by using Samsung App Store because they have deals from time to time.
Because of some of the free apps available, Samsung App Store can be good to keep, but it if you don't feel like you'll get much use out of it then you may aswell just get rid of it and just use the Play Store.

I use 4. I primarily use Chrome. If I need to view Flash content, I use the stock browser (Internet). If I want to conserve data, I use Opera Mini. I do have Dolphin, but I don't use it very much at all.

You probably don't need all 3. I find that sometimes, a mobile browser may have difficulty with some web site. On those rare occasions, I try a different browser.

Home screens are a way to organise your apps that you use most often. If you use the app tray most of the time, then you don't need all 7 home screens. I used all 7 on my old phone. On my SGS3, I only use 5, but I use Nova Prime Launcher which allows me to increase the number of rows of icons I have per home screen. If you do not want 7 home screens, you can always delete the ones you don't need.

i use Chrome as my main browser and Firefox if i need flash. just delete other screens then add as you need them.... maybe have a full size calender widget on one, folders of diff' types of apps on one and make the centre one into a work of art with just a nice wallpaper, clock widget and nice dock icons?

Basically hitting the Apps icon takes you to the Apps drawer. It is where all your apps are located so you can have access to them (which is why you can't delete them). The icons appearing on your home screen are basically just shortcuts you put on the home screen to make it faster to get to.
