Thanks, bvbull! I've been reading through some of the xda threads, but it's a bit daunting with several hundred pages worth for each ROM...this is exactly the info I was looking for.
I'm definitely going to flash TPR as you suggested. What about Fat Ass rom?
Besides what is in the rom's OP -
Splits the Difference Sound Mod, (sounds good)
The Latest Rotating Lockscreen Mod (doesn't matter)
The Latest Camera Low Power Mod (sounds good)
Stock Kernel (sounds good, but I will try TPR's different kernels first)
Framework and toggle theming is now "back" to stock looks. (I like)
Note 2 Camera replaces stock GS3 camera!!! (cool)
Seems like those are the only differences.
According to OP, we can do dirty flash, which is cool too.
The Fatass version is basically a fully loaded, you get everything version of TPR. You can do the same thing with TPR if you want, you just have to select it. The idea behind TPR, besides stability, is to give options. The Aroma installer lets you choose kernels, home button action, lag hack, camera shutter sounds, launcher, 4.2 camera, etc. Each of them, you can be confident, are perfectly stable.
The sound mod can be appealing to some, I suppose, but I don't like the little bit of distortion you get at the higher volumes. It is better with the "split the difference", but still... At any rate, you can choose with TPR in the installer.
The rotating lock screen seemed to slow my screen rotation down and I uninstalled it. YMMV.
Low power camera mod is on TPR.
Kernel can be selected in TPR.
The only thing that I kind of like with the Fatass version is the relatively stock theme. That said, now that I use the Morphology zip, the stock theme doesn't matter to me. You can use it to get a very stock looking theme, or change some things up. I have a custom theme that is definitely not stock (if you know the GS3), but could pass as stock if you didn't know any better.
As for the camera, the Note 2 camera is pretty cool, but not a huge difference over the GS3 camera, in my opinion. The 4.2 camera is an option with TPR and is really cool for the Sphere mode.
TPR seems like the new favorite. To me it's just WAAAAAAAAAAY to much to set up, lol. For my phone, I like everything simple and stock TouchWiz looking (I have ALWAYS been a fan of TouchWiz even when I had HTC's Sense). Blazer is good. 2.1 started messing up with my Airave, mainly because of the Ktoonz kernel I believe. Couldn't find just a plain stock kernel w/no added tweaks or whatever so I went back to stock.
Check my signature and you'll see the ROM list I put together (trying to maintain daily at least) with all the ROMs (TW and CM/AOSP/AOKP) for our phone. Just click the links and read at least the 1st if not 1st through 3rd posts. Usually everything is in the first post but sometimes the poster will put them in the first 3.
I mean, I guess it is a lot to set up compared to other ROMs, but what are we talking about, 1 minute's worth of decisions? Just a few screens in Aroma to get through and you're done. Nice having the options, too, in my opinion.
Add in Morphology to create a more stock looking theme and you add another 2 minutes or so. Once done, you can save a backup and get that theme whenever you want.
Like I said, I agree that it is technically more work, but it is still just a few minutes and you get TONS of options.
