Virgin Mobile HTC Evo V 4G too outdated yet?

Hey guys, I recently broke my ICS Kyocera Rise and without having phone insurance, it looks like I'm gonna be investing in a phone again. I want to get one with a big screen but on Virgin Mobile my only options are the Galaxy S II or the Evo V 4G. The Evo is currently on sale at $139 and the S II's at $279, which is enough of a difference for me to consider the Evo. I need this phone to last at least 1 1/2 years, probably 2. I know its a little bit of an older device, but since its still running ICS and has a dual core, would it be that bad? Thanks!

Hard to say, there are rumors of Virgin Mobile getting LTE. If they do it would be nice to have a LTE device if you plan on keeping your new phone that long. You could go with the Evo V since it is cheaper. Then you might decide to get a LTE device if they do get LTE and it is available in your area.

Oh and to anwer your question, even though i do not own the Evo V i do not think it would be that bad. The Galaxy S II is slightly better though from what i have read.

My recommendation would be switch companies. If you're not married to virgin, you can get the lg Optimus l9 for $199. A little more than the evo, but a lot less than the s2. And it's a much better phone than the evo. I just did the exact thing, went from the evo v on virgin, to the l9 on T-Mobile pre paid. You get faster speeds too. Something to think about.

If he is happy with Virgin Mobile then why switch. If he is not happy with them or would like better data speeds T-Mobile would be a option, but he should check T-Mobile coverage first.

I have actually looked at that model. I liked it but I also like Virgin Mobile's phone insurance in case I drop it. Does T-Mobile offer anything like that? If so, I would probably switch just because I can get 4G here and i can't with VM

They do have Monthly 4G handset protection.

They do have handset protection as an add on. Not sure how much it is but I'd imagine it's in line with other carriers. It's an idea. I'd do the research first and be sure they have coverage there, but it sounds like you have done that. And you can always try out simple mobile, or straight talk since it's a GSM. Although of you get handset protection through T-Mobile I don't think it would carry over. Monthly price is something to look at too. Virgin is $55 for unlimited everything with 2.5 GB of full speed data, with T-Mobile it's $60 for unlimited everything with 2GB full speed. But oh, the speeds. And this phone is so snappy, no lag at all. Like I said it's something to think about. Ultimately you gotta do what feels best for you.

Thanks for the responses guys. Im gonna call the T-Mobile store down the street when they open to make sure that I would get 4G here. I like the idea of the L9 over the Evo. Thanks again!
