Hi, i have an lg optimus l5 (e617g). I've had it for about 3 months now and recently i started to face some problems with it. The main problem is that 3G does not work on it for some reason (it never did). When i switch to wcdma mode all i get is an empty network bar and an "x" next to it. I've posted a thread earlier about this and i've come to a conclusion that the phone is defective. The other problem is that there is no FM radio on the phone where as it clearly states on the specs list and user manual that there is indeed an FM radio on my phone. My question is, could not having an fm radio and 3g be related?

There's no connection between 3g and FM.

Where did you buy the phone from? From your other thread it sounds like either a warranty issue or that the phone does not support your carrier's 3g frequencies (possible if it's an import).

i bought the phone from a local shop- no warranty, no anything. I'm sure the phone supports my carrier's 3G frequencies cause i checked both my phone's and the network's specs and they are a match.
Could it be a hardware problem? If so, can it be fixed?

You need a separate app for the FM radio. It is not available from Play Store and does not (probably) come pre-installed on your phone.

See ... FM Radio Tuner ... in the Bionic area. This works for Gingerbread and ICS on the Bionic and a few other models.

There must be an FM tuner (hardware) included in the phone and you must plug in a headset when using it (it uses the headset sire for an antenna).

Actually telling us that it's Ethio Telecom does help us understand the problem, though not to solve it. :(

According to a quick web search, Ethio Telecom uses the WCDMA 2100 band. LG's spec page for the e617 says that it uses the 850 and 1900 bands for 3g (North American frequency bands). So if it is an e617g that's your problem - the e610 is the version with the 2100 band.

Sorry about this. This might also explain the FM radio - the specs may differ from other Optimus L5 versions - though I don't know whether that is the case or not.
