Help Predictive text/autocorrect issues on Galaxy 3 since latest update

Super annoying. I can confirm that it happens only with the stock keyboard because I can't reproduce it now that I switched to the Perfect Keyboard Free.

OK thanks. So now we have some confirmation that it is the Samsung keyboard, through a process of elimination.

Can other people with this problem please try swapping the keyboard to lend further confirmation to this evidence.

The next process I would have suggested was to ask which carrier people are using in case it is a Sprint-only problem, but I see that it isn't as a user on US Cellular has the problem. So it is a Samsung issue.

Right, it might be worth posting bug reports on the Samsung Developers forum here:

Forum | SAMSUNG Developers

And if enough people sign up and post reports then the developers are more likely to take notice, particularly as it is a serious bug, causing people to possibly lose a lot of work/information.

In the meantime, I suggest people swap keyboards like midnight286 has done and you will alleviate the problem and the danger of losing your input text. Use Perfect Keyboard Free and your problem will disappear, as it has been confirmed.

I know it's a pain having to change keyboards but that is the beauty of Android - that we can change these things if a manufacturer gets something wrong, as Samsung has in this case.

My 2 week old S3 with 4.1.2 from Verizon does the same thing. However, I have not been able to create the same error with Perfect Keyboard Pro.

It may be a finger touching the text field while selecting a predicted word. I can cause it to happen after awhile with the Samsung keyboard in a text or on Facebook. Try it and keep doing it - it will happen. Is it a coincidence? I haven't been able to get PKP to make the same error so far.

PS - I have big hands so I always use a vertical keyboard.

We're talking about a different process which is selecting a word that is predicted before you finish typing the word. That is the problem people are having.

If you haven't been choosing the presented words above the keyboard instead of finishing typing, then you won't have run into this issue yet. Why don't you try using those words which can make your texting quicker and see what happens.

Maybe it's not turned on?

Well I just checked my setting and it's turned on and tried what you said too use the presented word above the keyboard while I was typing a text message and no problem here that I can see works great for me

DroidVision,

That's great! Now, if you are a clumsy typist on their first smart phone with big hands like me, you might find that you see the word you want up there more and more and you choose it. "Wow! This works great!" Then you start to get into the habit of it. "This is cool!" Typing goes so much faster. Then, POW, all your text is gone after typing 130 characters, or more in a Facebook post. "CRAP!" Start over again, get down around the same place, choose a word - BAM! Gone again!

It doesn't happen every time. In fact, it seduces you into using it and then kicks you in the "Hmm, hmm.":p

After going back from Perfect Keyboard Pro a couple of times because I like the Samsung board a little better, for my hands in vertical mode, and the prediction seems to work better, I've given it up for good.

Try using the keyboard that I suggested in the post above yours, Perfect Keyboard Free. It has both "touch to correct words" function (selectable) and "auto-complete" (selectable) which is the feature that you wish the Samsung keyboard offered. Spacebar and punctuation automatically insert the highlighted word.

I particularly like this keyboard because if you swipe up on the spacebar you get a row of arrow keys which you can use to precisely position your cursor for editing.

Thank you!! that Perfect Keyboard is AMAZING! and helped me with my problem! :):):):)

Could all the people having this problem please try another keyboard so that we can eliminate this as the problem. Nobody's saying you have to buy another keyboard - here is an excellent keyboard that is free, called Perfect keyboard Free, which I found had very good prediction and the layout is highly customizable (even including the size and spacing of the keys).

Particularly for the OP, BeingIansMommy, it would help you argue your point to Customer Support if through a process of elimination you can say it is nothing to do with reception issues and you don't want to hard reset your phone because it works with other keyboards.

Thank you, good sir! Thankfully Google speaks fluent spaz, as I searched "problems with galaxy s3 keyboard autocorrect correct wrong word" and it brought me here. And to OP, I couldnt even correctly describe this problem, let alone get any help with it! I registered with this forum simply to say THANK YOU, Davoid, and OP. So far, Perfect Keyboard is...well...Perfect! Is it worth it to purchase the full version? If I stick with the free version will I get that popup prompt to buy the full version all the time? It is worth the money, but I wont bother if I dont need to. Thanks!

The way I'm experiencing this is that when I'm typing a message on either a forum like this or texting. My main trigger is the word "you" among other words. It will either clear out my message or freeze my phone all together. One of the forums I'm on has a chat box that auto updates so its not fully frozen. The keyboard and screen becomes unresponsive. Then the phone will reboot on its own. I didn't have this problem when I was on the LJ7 build. Update went to the mb1 build and now I'm having keyboard issues. On top of all that, I notice they keyboard also mistypes a lot of words all the time. You will usually be spelled uou yiu or uoi.

Edit: this post was longer but said problem made me retype it all. I was also using the aosp keyboard without issues. I like the samsung board because the text font is pleasing to the eye. I also noticed that the mb1 build removed caps lock. I have to hit the shift button for each letter. Pain in the arse.

Double edit. I'm rooted so I will be flashing back to a lj7 build rom. This new build is crap and I drop a lot of calls with the new radio. I flashed just the radio back but the other problems still remain. Hopefully the next releases fix these issues.

Thank you very much, BeingIansMommy and davoid! This issue has been driving me insane for months. The Perfect Keyboard Free seems to have it's own glitches (adding duplicate letters to words I type, predictive texts or error corrections inconsistent,) but at least it doesn't DELETE all of my work.

I appreciate the help, and will go to Samsung to request they repair this awful bug.

I have a Samsung Galaxy III through Verizon.
