Root [CDMA] Need Help Desperately! Root Issue.

Ok, I've been trying to root my 3D since I've gotten last week and I've read and watched tutorials up and down. It will not S-OFF!

Here's is my about phone info

OS: 4.0.3
HTC Sense Ver.: 3.6
Software Ver." 2.95.651.6 710RD

It' all stock. I got this phone as a replacement after my beloved EVO 4G finally gave it's breath after 3 long years! I need Root! My battery life sucks without it. If someone can help me or even better, remotely root it for me, I'll be forever grateful! If not, thanks anyway.

I have tried to Unlock the Bootloader via HTCDEV and I am unable to get the "Splash Screen" that tells me to Unlock my Bootloader. I have went through the Steps carefully and have got the .bin file. But I get nothing on my screen after running "C:\Android>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin"

Please can you help. I am also on Version 2.95.651.6 710RD
HTC EVO 3D
HBoot 1.58

I would suggest running the RUU and then seeing if you can unlock.

I'm not 100% sure whether this will work or not since you took the latest OTA but it should since the hboot is still the same. Download that file and rename to PG86IMG.zip and place on the root of your sd card (not in any folders).

Reboot into your bootloader and when asked to update hit volume up to say yes. Should take 10 minutes or so.

So far, everyone that has the unlock issue has been able to unlock after running the latest RUU.

You took the latest OTA update which updated the phone's main version but not the bootloader. If you tried running the exe version of the RUU it would fail because it checks hboot version and main version.

Running the PG86IMG version of the RUU does not check main version from what I understand so you should be able to run it without error.

I just tried the .zip file. I loaded in bootloader and it started to read the .zip file. Then I got the error.

Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.

Any other Suggestions?

thank You.

Gahh!!! I'm kinda stumped now then... You're in a tricky spot since you took the update. To unlock the bootloader you probably need to run the RUU... But to run the RUU you need your bootloader unlocked so we can change your main version.. :/

You will have to get s-off. You can run a live dvd or usb of ubuntu. If you go to the ubuntu website they have instructions to make the live usb or dvd.

So basically you temporarily boot Linux into the pc memory and run a different os. Then when you restart you can just boot back up into windows.

Many people have done s-off on 64 bit, including myself. I don't see why a live usb won't work. They have really narrowed down what is "supported".

I would follow as much of the the instructions exactly as written as much as you can. But many people have varied in different ways whether it be 64 bit, or just being on a stock based rom because they couldn't run the ruu.

Well, crap. I just don't understand Linux/Ubuntu so a friend of mines sent me a copy of ControlBear for Windows. Needless to say, somehow, I managed to brick my phone. I can access the bootloaded but whenever I try to recover, it just boots back to bootloader. If I boot normally, I get a lit black screen. I'm without a phone. Why isn't there a one click method like Revolutionary for my HBOOT? lol.
