Verizon S4 gets Apps to SD update

Verizon has made the anticipated update (VRUAME7) available but not as an OTA update.

There is an explanation of how to do it at
http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/galaxys4-sua.pdf

BUT you will probably lose root if you do according to DROID life.
New Software Update VRUAME7 Available for Verizon’s Galaxy S4 Through Desktop Installer, Apps to SD Card Included – Droid Life

We have two SGS4s (one rooted and one not) so I updated the vanilla one.

I noticed there is a new entry in the About Phone section that says "Secure boot status" with "Type: Samsung" as the entry. That is not there in my rooted one.

With this update some apps can be moved to the SD card but I have not yet seen a complete list of all changes.

I am waiting until the "keeping root" issues get resolved before I update my second phone. Having root is more important to me than moving some apps.

Settings - More - About phone - Software update - Check - Download

That should do it, mine is downloading now. More convenient to get it going now since I'm on my speedy wifi.

After download is complete, "Software update available - Tap to install new software" will appear if you drag down the notification bar.

I'm reading on other forums that this update has gone OTA. However, as of now, it appears that the update will:

1) Irreversibly kill root; and
2) Apparently also kills app-based hotspotting (i.e., FoxFi) - NOT TRUE, SEE BELOW

You've been warned - apply update at your own risk!

[UPDATE]:

I just installed the patch, and I am happy to let you all know that wifi tethering still works (at least using FoxFi). Many people on the FoxFi app page are complaining that the update killed it, but I can confirm it still works. However, when you activate hotspot, you will get an error page warning you that a hostspot subscription is required. When you get that page, simply hit the Home button and you will be good to go!
