Hey folks, I just joined big pink today. And well, I have a question that maybe one of you can explain...
Alright so I am new to the whole....gsm side of things, been a CDMA user for 10 years. I'm currently running an ATT note i717 on T-Mobile. Great phone, holy crap...but I digress.

My question pertains to apn settings. I want to flash ROMs like crazy, but I'm hesitant. My question to you is this: are the APN settings connected to my sim card? Or do I locate them online and input them into the custom ROM...?

Alright, so its all on my sim card. Would you suggest maybe removing it before flashing ROMs?

Just trying to figure this stuff out. Don't want a paperweight.
it is partly the sim, but every rom has a APN.xml in the /system/etc folder (linux speak) If your familiar with linux O/S you can find many interesting things on the phone.
So that APN.xml has a list of dozens maybe hundreds of possible apns your phone gets the network identity from the sim and picks the correct one (usually) sometimes though you need to manually edit the apn, but not to worry its not like your editing the xml file just a few taps on the menus of the phone and enter in the information into a form.

And yes leave the sim in you wont hurt anything.
