Android replacing hifi but using hifi speakers

I have a 15 year old radio, which is currently being repaired. I have no idea how long it will take though. It seems now that the only thing I use the hifi is to listen to the radio. CD's are in mp3 format or I could just use it with the PC. The cassette deck has been faulty years ago with no chance of repairing in future due to no parts. Since the phone needs the earphone to function as a radio, is it possible to use the phone as a radio itself? Obviously the phone can't power up hifi, but is it possible to use a lepai in between?

SGS2 > male earphone jack - male earphone jack > Lepai LP2020A > hifi speakers.

Can I just the use the earphone jack as a radio antenna? Or I need something else as an antenna? If it is possible, maybe I need a long earphone jack for better radio reception? Some of the stations at my local area do not have online streaming. If not I would have used tune-in radio a long time ago and forget about the FM receiver.

Has anyone tried doing this?

Thanks

I've plugged my phone into an amplified 2.1 PC speaker system, and the FM radio worked fine using the lead from the speaker into the headphone jack, and that was working as the antenna. I'm often playing music from my phone this way anyway.

The Lepai was really meant as an automotive amplifier, but there's an optional power brick. It should work, can't see any obvious problems. Your HiFi speakers are 4-8 ohm are they?

The speakers are 3 ohm each. The wires going from the speakers are the red/black L/R wires for each speaker. Do I need a amp for that?

I'm sure you'll need the amp. You're not going to be driving HiFi speakers straight from the headphone jack of the phone. I think 3 ohm will be OK. Are you intending to crank the thing to maximum volume all the time? Because 3 ohm is a bit below the stated specs of the amp.

The only thing you have to watch for with these cheap automotive amplifiers, is that you do not short circuit the speaker wires, because chances are the amp will die instantly.

3 amps per speaker. So should it be counted as 6 ams? Which amp are talking about in the first place:D?

I thought of using the Lepai amp. If not, I'll salvage whatever amp from the old radio and used that.

3 ohms, the output impedance in specs is always for each speaker, not added.

I thought you was going to use the Lepai amp. :D I'm sure it will work for your uses. You can use the old salvaged amp, provided it has a line-in or aux input. Don't connect your phone to the record deck input, that won't work.

The SQ on these cheap Chinese automotive amps is OK, I wouldn't consider it true HiFi. Only thing you have to be careful of is that you don't short circuit the outputs, because the chances are that will kill it. Also driving 3 ohms is a bit low, that's why I was asking if you was intending to run it at full volume all the time....annoying the neighbours. :D;)...because with lower impedance speakers, there's more current flowing at high volumes.

Good to know we are talking the same thing :D

So should I use the Lepai one or go for a cheapo/lower power model that can support 3 ohm's?
