Moto Droid Maxx Pre-Release Thread

I'm used to being in the EPIC threads on these forums. Droid Incredible (most epic of all times) and Galaxy Nexus (I was certain that someone would burn down big red before they finally came out with that phone). However, I come here daily looking for discussion on this phone and well, meh Nothing.

Why isn't there more excitement or discussion regarding this phone on these forums. Honestly, I don't go to other forums so I'm not sure if it's the phone or the forums.

Any thoughts? That is any thoughts from the 3 other people that have visited here?

I went to every Verizon store in my City the day of the announcement. They all looked at me like I was nuts when I talked about the Droid Maxx and generally want to point me to the Droid Razr Maxx.

I am very interested in the Droid Maxx and am waiting for tomorrow to see what the released Moto X has.

I was caught off guard with the Maxx announcement and wonder how many other people were also caught off guard. All this time I was expecting the thrust to be Moto X.

same here... shocked by the lack of discussions on this device. I think everyone is waiting to see what the Moto X has in store before jumping.... in fact, Verizon might be thinking the exact same thing. I placed a pre-order for the Droid Maxx and it has been in process since last Thursday. I am thinking that Verizon might think people will cancel their Pre order when and if the X arrives sooner than the Maxx. I have never had a order be in process for several days like that. Oh well, personally I plan to get both the Maxx and X anyway since I can't decide which I like better. But I am more excited about the Maxx due to the battery life and because I like AMOLED screens.

I'm waiting for the Engadget review before I make a decision. The S4 is the other phone I'm considering. The 1080p and the faster processor in the S4 makes it a hard decision. On the other hand, that fully hands free operation on the Droid looks wild. But how often would I really use that?

There's a bunch more buzz in the Moto X forums but I'm really not sure why. Unless the leaked specs are way off. The Moto X sounds like the Droid Mini. 4.5" screen, 720p, that new 8x Moto chipset at 1.7GHz.

The why is IMNHO simple ... identical device on multiple carriers ... just like iPhone(s).

For Verizon customers ... what does Droid Maxx vs. Moto X mean? 3:00pm today might answer it.

Ok, now that the Moto X has had the wraps officially taken off of it, I'm not sure why I would choose it over the Moto Droid Maxx. 24 hours less battery life, same OS, same display. Oh wait, I know so that I can get the color back that I want and then cover it up with a case. Maybe there will be more traffic here now.

Then again, those that are not excited about the Droid Maxx still have no reason to be excited, no 1080p, no SD slot, no replaceable battery, etc.

I think when it comes down to it the maxx is the best new phone. I look for battery life in a phone. I have the razr maxx and my contract is up in January. The only thing I don't like about the new maxx is no sd slot...

I currently have a GNex with no SD. At first I was apprehensive about that fact, but after 20 months I truly haven't missed it. Doesn't mean everyone won't miss it but I haven't. All of my music is uploaded to Google Music, I stream movies (the 3 times per year I actually watch movies on my phone) from Netflix and I have over 110 apps on my phone with 4.13GB of space remaining on my 32 GB phone. The only thing that eats tons of space are my nandroid backups. If I keep those limited to 1-2 then I never have a space issue.

I just can't see any problem with that. My ignorance is my biggest fear of this phone. When I buy a phone I keep it 20-24 months which means when I finally upgrade I want the best specs on the market so that I don't feel left out in 12 months due to having old technology. I really and truly don't understand the processor technology used witht he Maxx. Is it an 8 core is it not? Also, the 720p display is concerning but I really don't think I can tell the difference, could be wrong.

Yeah, if money is no issue, the maxx is certainly better than the X simply because of the battery. But with it being available on 4 other carriers is why the X gets more buzz. Simply more people can get it. Quite simply, how many people on these forums have we seen get an international razr and use it on AT&T or T-Mobile?

Droid Life is reporting that the new Droid series has the same Clear Pixel camera that the Moto X does. I wonder if that's a misprint or if there's any truth to that.

Boy I cannot believe with 8/20 fast approaching that the Maxx forum isn't bouncing with excitement. All the goodies of the Moto X AND a 5" screen AND a killer battery? I haven't been this excited for a phone in quite some time. 8/20 can't get here fast enough for me and I will be at my local VZW store when it opens!

The Maxx is SO going to be my next phone.

I am definitely getting excited for this phone but am waiting four the hands on. I am also waiting to see if the boot loader is lock or a developer edition is coming out.

I haven't heard anything about a developer edition, but as far as the bootloader, I'd bank on that being locked.

On other news, as I was sitting on VZW's website drooling over the specs page, I noticed that the GPS is GLONASS (the Russian system in addition to our US system) equipped. Should make for a solid and accurate signal.

I added a countdown widget to on my GNex to 8/20. Yes, I am a geek

I reviewed the Moto X and the answer is clear to me ... my next phone will probably be the Droid Maxx. I also would like to handle it before closing the deal.

I have to remember to request 8/20 off of work too... kind of a "new phone" tradition of mine, because I wouldn't get any work done anyway...

My "release day" streak will be unbroken. Storm > Droid Incredible > Galaxy Nexus > Droid Maxx.

I've used the Bionic since hour one of its release. Simply great. It is difficult to fathom that the Maxx is thinner than the Bionic.

I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon to review it with my Verizon Wireless store.

August 15th is my pre-order date, but from what I've been told by phone representatives, I can call in a week early they can move my date back. I'm torn over buying it at retail to preserve my grandfathered data or buying it at discounted pricing. The truth is I average less than 2GB per month so unlimited is not that necessary for me.

If I do buy with discounted pricing I will be selling my unlimited plan via assumption of liability through ebay. I had no idea that was possible until recently. My son had unlimited and about a year ago I updated his phone losing his unlimited data. I didn't know that Assumption of Liability was possible. People are paying between $200 and $350 for unlimited data now.

I just went to Verizon.com and looked at the reviews for the Maxx and they are not good. People knocking the camera and screen. Two questions, first how do they have this phone to review yet and second, are they trustworthy?

Unbelievable. Putting all media on the sd card protects it and keeps you from running out of space. I've been eagerly waiting for this to come out so I could get one, now I'm just going to wait for the next generation and make my current phone last another year or whatever. Huge disappointment. Terrible idea.

I have never bought anything with fruit on it <apple> because it's proprietary, and no external memory upgrade capability. Was glad to see the great camera and battery improvement on the Maxx, but it lost it's edge over iSorry by eliminating the external memory slot. Now if the phone goes dead or detroyed, your pics,vids etc are gone too. And there's no swapping memory if you're a hoarder and want more memory. Such a shame Motorola went backwards.

The phone is awesome, only problem is the speaker phone and the auxilary port. mine is done. I havnt had it very long either and I can not use headphones nor auxillary port. My speaker can barely recieve any kind of clear conversation. Not sure what happened. but everything else about the phone is awesome. :-/

Screen is resiliant, Battery is amazing, I can go days on a single charge or use my phone all day for music/ games etc and it will take the abuse. The Camera is really not so great compared to some of the other cameras like on the HTC's or Samsungs, so if you like a good camera I wouldnt recommend this phone. And if your a first time Droid user, this phone can be a bit frustrating as alot of its menus and features have to be loaded onto the main screens. Overall an average phone. Not bad, not great.

not impressed....no expandable memory?? no SD cards?? wth were they thinking? that's what kept me from apple products, might as well go with the 5 now....

This smart phone is the best phone bar none,I have to charge it about twice a week,if on wi fi,if not on wi fi about once a day.I also have a LapDock for it,large screen and keybroard,work great....

I saw that! On a couple of them I think they're confused, thinking they're leaving comments in the Droid RAZR Maxx section and didn't realize they were in the Droid Maxx section.

Ok, I know this is a Moto X review, but it should get us in the ballpark on the Maxx.
