You guys realize that vm is now charging you for missed calls, right?

Never ever ever ever ever send your PIN via email. Only give it to them over the phone when you have called them.

Email is not a secure method to send any type of account information.

This is why I always carry a $0 balance.. and if I run out of minutes, I just restart my plan.

I think this is the best solution lol. That's what I used to do and still do on T-mobile. Just buy a card with cash before it runs out, then add the money on the day it does. With a 0$ balance, they can't pinch your pennies lol. It could get to 34.99 and they won't accept it because it's still not 35. That happened to me before. Oh the VM days.... . :p

major phone company scamming thousands or maybe millions, your probably right. this isnt news at all.....

Wow!! After they burned through your $10, you added millions on your account?

Or did I miss the part where you proved this was a widespread thing and not just a glitch with your specific account?

It sounds like VMU owes you an explanation and some money. But at the same time, this is the reason (or the main reason) people go with prepaid. The carrier can't screw you out of money you don't put on the account. You can't get a Verizon-like $200 bill some month.

If you don't want them to charge you for something you don't know about, you don't put money on the account. That's how/why prepaid works. Don't keep putting money in (except paying for the monthly service) until they fix it. $10 is hardly the biggest case of corporate malfeasance the internets have ever heard of...

I use groove ip. When I go international. Use phone calls trough wifi only

Yep - Groove IP is great for calls.

If you're low on minutes and have WiFi available calls are completely free.

One missed call and my cash balance went down bye 10 cent. After testing and reading though my phone log and transaction history on-line, they take one phone evertime your phone rings and you dont answer

Wow, I'd be furious if my carrier did that. Hope you guys get it worked out.

My take on this was they don't owe him an explanation OR a dime. All these calls he's getting go to VM, the caller doesn't want to leave a message but the system doesn't know nor care (nor should they) that an actual message was left or not. Someone utilized the network to try to get hold of him. He should be charged for a minute.
If I try to call someone and I don't get an answer I leave a message. If I didn't want to, why would I bother calling?
If people are ringing him repeatedly but not leaving messages several things are likely going on:
(a) it's junk calls, auto dialers or collections agencies. There are channels to utilize to minimize this.
or
(b)it's family or friends trying to talk to him and left one message and are trying him again in the hopes he picks up.
In the case of (b) he should pay for the minute

Finally remember all calls whether VM is left or not are listed in the phone log with the number of the caller. In effect acting like a pager.

This has got to be the most annoying thing yet. I get a lot of calls that I don't take because I'm busy, etc. I just realized after doing basic math that I'm getting screwed. I emailed vm and they said they were well aware of the issue and would credit me. After, and only after I followed up did they tell me the credit wouldn't be issued UNTIL JULY. What's with these people? I've never really had a real problem with vm before, but this is annoying enough for me to leave them.

You shouldn't be getting charged minutes for unanswered calls, only ones that go through. Is it one minute for each unanswered call? Is it happening to anyone else you know in Chicago?

If it helps, from the VM Terms:

How We Calculate Your Charges

Regular Voice Calls: We round up partial minutes of use to the next full minute. Time starts when you press "Talk" or your Device connects to the network and stops when you press "End" or the network connection otherwise breaks. You're charged for all calls that connect, even to answering machines, voicemail, or voice transcription services. You won't be charged for unanswered calls or if you get a busy signal. For incoming calls answered, you're charged from the time shortly before the Device starts ringing until you press "End" or the network connection otherwise breaks. You're charged for the entire call based on the rate that applies to the time period in which the call starts. However, the types of charges actually deducted from your account balance will vary depending on your Service. Call time data displayed on your device may be inaccurate and may not be relied upon for determining charges to your account. Call time for a single call may be subject to a maximum duration and may be automatically terminated if the maximum duration is exceeded.

It's been a problem for a while now. VM send me a text a while back saying they credited me minutes because of this saying they were sorry. I've had 330 minutes available to use every month for the past 4 months or so now. I don't know when it's going to end but it doesn't really matter to me because I only use like 200 minutes a month anyway.

Now, they are saying it's become an issue again, and they aren't sure when it will be resolved but that credit will be given sometime in July to those affected. They didn't say, but the implication is that it will happen automatically.

It's happening to me too, BTW - Minneapolis area. Thankfully I usually don't come close to using all my minutes.

It's unacceptable. What's with Sprint/Vm and the total lack of giving a shit about their customers?

We're talking about the cheapest carriers on the market. That low price doesn't come out of thin air. They put less effort into making sure everything works 100% perfectly and less effort into caring about their customers, and are therefore able to deliver service for less money.

Want to ratchet it down some more? RingPlus beats the heck out of everybody else's prices on plans and overages by playing advertising ringbacks instead of the "ring ring ring" sound you normally hear while waiting for someone to pick up, has no customer service call center that I know of, uses off-contract used Sprint devices, no roaming, and of course Sprint's towers. That's the carrier that I use now. I'm on a $2/month plan with $.02 per MB/SMS/minute overage rates.

My favorite "cheap" carrier is Lycamobile (uses T-Mobile's network), using a Pay-as-you-Go plan. They charge $.02/minute talk, $.04 per outgoing text (incoming texts are free), $.06 per MB data. As long as "use" your account (get charged for talk, text, or data) every 90 days your balance stays current. I use it for a backup phone, put $5 on the account last May and still have $.52 on my account; so less than 40 cents per month.

I should add that they now require top ups to be at least $10.
