Secretly being thorottled by metro?

Tonight I was downloading a 700mb .ago movie on my new LG Optimus L9 and was taking longer than on my LG Motion. At the start of the download was 300kbps to 800 with both arrows under 4g icon lit. About 3-5 min the arrows flicker and shows 3-25kbps. I tried moving for a stronger signal no luck. I paused the download to look at something then restarted it. Both arrows were on steady and 300-800 was back for about 5 min then flickered again. I had to keep doing this for the whole time. Does anyone have a idea what's happening and how to fix it. I almost forgot to mention I have the $60 unlimited data plan.

Sounds like traffic shaping - the network slowing down high usage connections in order to be able to provide a better service to other users of the network. I'm pretty sure there will be something in the T&Cs that allows them to do that.

You could try running your downloads overnight when network usage is lower - traffic shaping tends not to do much then.

Yes this is in the terms and conditions I just read through them last night

not throttled, traffic like the others said, I've got download speeds in the middle of the day as fast as 30mb.

Sounds like they throttled it, check with metro, Though I guess its possible there was a setting that could be changed.

Are you rooted? if so there maybe a way to keep that from happening.

I only heard about this never experienced this so if it works great if not... well.

There is a folder in /data/system/throttle empty the folder then remove the write permissions. reboot and hopefully it will never throttle.

I feel like metro has been throttling me lately too. I've only used 1gb of my data since ive paid my bill and my speeds are slow in places where they'd usually excel. I'm going to get the $60 plan sometime this month though.

It's $5!! A little more then a gallon of gas or milk lol.

Lmao a little less than a gallon of gas in some places...

Edit: I spoke to metro today because my speeds sucked. They said that anyone that was on the $55 unlimited plan will stay at $55 and will be grandfathered in. They will not throttle, and will not change our price without giving us advanced notice. He also said that they have no plans to do that in the immediate future.
