battery saving tips?

Love my new phone, but reading about the battery lives everyone is getting...I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong? Took it off charger today at 7, and am down to 80% already. Checked a few websites, Facebook, and that's it.

I have screen on auto brightness, turned off GPS and Google location, and still I'm.not getting much battery. I had my phone since Monday and let it run out twice in hopes of the amazing battery life, but so far its average at best, and I figure I must be doing something wrong, esp with people reporting they used phone all day and still have 60% or better. Any tips?

So what's that? 80% after 90 minutes? Yeah, there's no way that's right. Did you carry all your old apps over from your previous phone? I found that CNN was a battery terrorist on my Gnex. There were some others, too, that once removed would immediately improve my battery longevity.

I'd suggest starting from scratch, with just a few key apps, to establish a battery baseline. If that doesn't improve things, I suppose it's possible you've got a faulty power pack in there and need to have the phone exchanged. There's no way you should be seeing such a dramatic rundown in that short a time, especially with the numbers many of us are experiencing (and I pretty much carried over everything from my Nexus!).

Tried posting a usage screen shot, but said file was too big. Not sure how to make a picture file smaller. Just a summary of usage, the main things were

Screen 74%
Chrome 10%
Android System 6%
Android OS 3%

I am down to 74% as of 2 hours 39 min on battery.

I used the Migrate app to transfer over my contacts, photos, and texts, but that was about it. I have to believe I am doing something wrong, or I got a bad phone, because with a 48 hour battery life, even with hard usage, I can't believe I would be down 26% already.

The only apps I installed were XM radio, ebay, and my bank. When I looked in settings-apps-running, I found a TON listed as running that I dont even know what they do, or wasnt currently running...like camera, XM, facebook, motocare, etc. Could that have something to do with the battery drain? Does anyone go into apps and turn them all off, or a majority of them, before using the phone for the day? Any sort of suggestions would be so appreciated. I truly hope it is me doing something wrong, and I can fix this, rather than having to try and replace the phone. But I am really not sure.

also restarted phone, and upon startup, here is what is listed under running apps. I am wondering if this has something to do with battery drain:

Settings
Facebook
Sirius Xm
com.qualcom.qualcom
bluetooth share
mortorola services
audio effects
badger
backup assistant plus
droid command center
context engine
updater
media
google play services
modem stats service
camera
motocare
email
google play music
google play store
wireless display service
sync service
amazon
google keyboard

really need those screen shots to see when phone is awake or the screen is on etc. make a public folder of them on something like flickr, photobucket, google plus, dropbox.

according to what you provided, you used the phone fairly heavily during those 2h40m. there are alot of different factors that could contribute. the battery life during the first week or few days of having your phone is never going to be as good as it will be once you are back to using your phone as-- well just a phone and not a new toy. were you on wifi, how was your cell signal, inside or outside?

Wasnt on wifi, and had 4G full blue signal bars pretty much the entire time. I def understand the whole "new toy" factor of it, but I found it strange that in the battery life thread, people were posting full day usage and still having ridiculous amounts of battery life left, and I basically checked a few websites and texted a few times within 2 hours and somehow had lost almost 30% of my battery. Heavy usage or not, it seems sort of odd, to me at least, that a battery touted as having a 48 hour life, could use 30% in under 2 hours, with such simple usage. I figure I am doing something wrong, or don't have my settings correct. But should texting, facebook, and checking the web have that bad of an effect on that battery?

Im coming from a Droid 4, where I constantly had to have a charger on hand, in whatever room I was in, in my car, etc, and my phone was always dying. So while realistically I wasnt expecting 48 hours of hard usage on my MAXX with the battery not dying, I didnt think a few internet checks and facebook could blow through that much (25-30%) battery life in that short a time. What is the sense of having 4g, high speed, web capable phone if I have to monitor each and every thing I do for fear of running out of batter life this quick?

no one is going to be able to give you solid answers until you provide 4 or 5 different screenshots of your battery usage. until then its more guessing than anything. maybe you do have a problem but maybe you dont.

Was this your first charge cycle? Try running the battery out and then charging to 100% and see how you do. If you are still having a lot of run down after that I would try exchanging it. Possible you just got a bad battery.

My first charge I went 24hrs with over 4hrs of screen time and still had 30% left. That screen time included netflix streaming over wi-fi, bluetooth streaming in the car, and other normal activities (screenshots are in the other thread).

Had me listed at 2 hours 16 minutes on screen.

Had phone since monday, and let it run down each night. Let it run down to 0 last night, and fully charged it, and leaving the house with 100%, that is really when I took notice how quickly it seemed to be running through the battery. I posted a screen shot. I did charge it a little, but took another screen shot that I will try to post.

as i suspected, you are using the phone ALOT during that 2h40m. my gnex rarely gets 2 hours on screen time on a fully charged extended battery. i dont believe anything is wrong. if you connect to wifi you will definitely see some extra battery life. but 2 hours of on screen time through some 25% of your battery, times that by 4 and that is theoretically eight hours of on screen which is unheard of for an android phone.

Thank you for the feedback. I am going to tweak this a bit and see if I can improve on it, but my main concern was making sure I was not dealing with a defective model or doing something wrong.

if you get to the point where you are barely making it to 4 hours of on screen time per day, then i would say you have some issues. but it appears you should make it to atleast 6 without issue and that is MUCH better than most android users. once you are back into a routine usage pattern it should only get better. there is almost always something you can do to tweak the battery but my expectations with this phone is to get me through atleast 5-6 hours of on screen without sacrifices.
