You Wi-Fi shouldn't be using anywhere near that amount of power. I would reboot your phone, and if you've made any changes to your router, make sure the phone is actually connecting.
Seriously? You'd recommend that before just doing a simple reboot? I've had this type of issue a few times (a lot more on my old Droid) and I've never had to do a full reset.

Like I said, I've never had a reboot not solve a problem like that.
There is one other possibility. If the OP recently installed a new program (or updated an existing one), that could be the culprit. You can find recently updated programs in Play/My Apps.
random question but does your phone have a habit of losing power completly at a random % and then the only thing that will get it going again is to plug in the charger?
otherwise, what exactly are you doing on the phone?

Have you checked to see if it's connecting to wifi?
This was back when I owned a Droid 2G, but I used the automatic printer setup system (I don't remember what that's called) which set up a second network on my router AND changed my existing network in a manner that my phone no longer connected. It would repeatedly connect and disconnect every 5 seconds or so, which I imagine probably used a lot of power.
When you have the battery usage showing and you select Wi-Fi, how much time does it show on CPU total? My phone has been unplugged for almost 9 hours and it only shows 9 seconds of CPU time.
OP, I notice the Clean Master icon in your notification bar. If you are using the task killer (or "1 Tap Boost") feature of that app, it could very well be the cause of your issue. Task killers are totally unnecessary in recent versions of Android, and cause drain by constantly killing off system processes that automatically restart themselves.
So before I fell asleep last night I turned off wifi and closed open applications. The battery level was then at 41%. I then locked the phone turning screen off. After 2.5 hours I'm awake and checking my phone and it's dead. Battery empty...
I'm uninstalling the "cleaner" now to see if it may be causing the trouble.
If I do a total reset - should I just restore everything afterwards or will that just cause the problem to persist? If I install all my apps.
