Maybe it makes no sense, I am trying to get the thought right in my head... Forgive me if it comes across as incoherent.
Would it not be better for manufacturers to make phones and simply sell them to the consumers, I realize the subsidy would disappear, but having a gs4 from tmobile then flashing the gpe s4, it seems that perhaps if I would have went straight to the source and procured from Google, while more expensive, you do not have to deal with all the gimmicks and promotional ish from the carriers. And it would seem that with phone in hand seeking someone for service the carriers would have to work to get your Biz, N5, gpe htc1 and s4 with pure aosp expensive but pure.
The N5 should be sold as a unit unto itself, do not let carriers Touchwiz and sense the hell out of it or any phone anymore

I certainly agree, but we have a public that is now used to paying 99-299 for handsets while renewing a contract. It would be interesting to change the dynamic and ask people to pay full retail. Nexus devices are certainly affordable, but they don't carry the popularity that brands like Samsung have, and outside of enthusiasts, this is mostly what seems to matter to consumers.

Thats what is so great about a nexus product.

It IS sold as a product by itself, and you wont ever see touchwiz or sense or any other manufacturer skin or bloat on it.

Its just pure android, the way google envisions it

What I found having a Touchwiz phone, is coming from a low-end phone..is that all those extras are done to get asses in the seats. However, after flashing a aosp, I find I was able to free space and truly do not miss those features. S4 is like a nice bowl of ice cream, and putting all those extras makes it more appealing initially, but after indulging all you have left is unneeded extra bulk that only leaves you bloated. IMHO

Yeah, I can understand where the manufacturers are coming from by adding in all of those features.

They're trying to differentiate themselves from the other android manufacturers in a very crowded marketplace.

But once you get a taste of AOSP, you can't go back

The problem is, most consumers don't know what they're missing

If they turn off the idiot box and stop allowing themselves the force feeding from the carriers and their marketing firms. And to be sure, some of the features in the carriers skinning of the beasts is not all bad. Just when you see the space saved and the responsiveness, one can easily forgo all those gimmicks.

This reminds me of when my Dad was getting all of his apps from Verizon Apps or whatever it was called. People don't realize who makes the device and who makes the OS and the carrier are all different. I blame Verizon for this partially because back in the Moto Razr dumbphone days the made everyone put the same OS on their devices.
