Movie Rentals / Streaming while in Europe

Looking for some suggestions. I'm based in the US, US citizen and want to preferably rent or stream movies while I'm in Europe (In Switzerland about 30% of the time). What service can I subscribe to that will allow me to access movies in both the US and Switzerland?

Right now I "rent" movies from Google Play and pin them to my device before I leave on a trip. This works, but I'd like an option for grabbing a movie as needed.

Your problem, unless you use a Swiss service is the lag time on the internet. Streaming a movie from a US server, even allowing for shifting your internal clock, so you're watching in the wee hours of the US morning (when activity here is light), you're probably going to have to put up with a lot of buffering, possibly so much that watching movie will seem more like penance than pleasure. The only single service that would fit your purpose would be one that has multiple servers (like Google and other companies have), so that when you're in Switzerland you're streaming from a Swiss (or German or some other nearby) server, and when you're in the US, you're streaming from a US server, and that's done by the location of your connection to the intenet, not something you have to figure out and do manually.

AFAIK movie rentals like Google Play and Netflix are restricted to the country of your credit card and billing address. You could try using a VPN, but as Rubkat has pointed out you may well run into latency, bandwidth and buffering issues, especially if trying to view HD. If you're actually downloading rather than live streaming, this wouldn't be a problem. Blame Hollywood and the MPAA.
