I'll be receiving my new Moto X next week as a Christmas present, to replace my Samsung Galaxy S3. My S3 is a great phone, but when I had a chance to play with the Moto X extensively while waiting for my boyfriend's phone to be upgraded on a very busy day at the Verizon store, I fell in love. It just felt so right in my hand. I did some research, of course, to make sure it is a quality phone, and I'm satisfied that it is.

This is where you guys come in: I'm looking for tips on how to get it up and running well, and any hints as to special features I may be unaware of.

Also, are there any must-have accessories? I'll need a protective case - I'm too much of a klutz to not have one - but I like minimalist designs. I currently have a Cruzerlite Androidified TPU case on my S3, and it's served me well, so something similar to this would be ideal. Glitter/sparkle doesn't hurt, and I love jewel tones (dark purples, pinks, reds and blues). Cheap is awesome (as long as quality isn't too compromised).

Any help is appreciated!

Also, I know there's a forum here for selling used devices, but are there any other resources to look into for this, or for determining the value of my device?

Welcome!

Here is a good starter video when you get your phone.

20+ Tips and Tricks for the Moto X - YouTube

Also, I came from an S3 as well (sold it). Are you looking to sell your phone like on Ebay? I did lots of research when I sold mine, so I could probably give you a pretty good price in terms of what its worth. Just tell me the condition of the phone.

In terms of accessories...are you wanting the ones that like show the back of the phone? For example the ones they sell on the actually Motorola site? Or you want cheaper options?

Thanks for the reply. I will definitely watch the video when I get the phone (probably before as well).

Re: my current phone - yes, I am looking to sell it, possibly on ebay, unless there are better options.

It's a 16GB AT&T version, Garnet Red. It's in very good condition - few, if any, scuffs on the back, and only a very tiny scratch on the screen (only noticeable if you hold the phone in the right light). It works just fine, there were no technical or mechanical issues with it.

Cases: I intentionally chose the woven black back, and black front/accents, so that I could buy colorful cases without them clashing with the color of the phone (this was a big problem with my S3, since it was red - it was difficult to find a red that matched or complemented it.)

I would prefer translucent, and since I'd like to have multiple colors to switch out according to my mood, inexpensive is good. I have a few options so far, but haven't made any decisions.

I sold my phone on ebay. From the research I did, ebay does take a little off the top after you sell it, but at the same time, it seem to get me the best dollar for the phone. You might get lucky on craigslist. And you will get more for your phone on ebay then you would on those trade in websites. I sold my phone for $375. Mind you, that was a 3-4 months ago, and I added a lot to my listing. It came with the official Samsung dock, two batteries, three cases and the original box. That being said, I would value the phone itself at 300 dollars. You might find it harder to sell a red phone, as to the more traditional colors. Not sure.

There is a cases thread in this forum. I would check it out. Also look over the Moto site. They have nice cases.

Thanks! It would be awesome if I could get $300 for the phone (I also have a few cases I can add to the listing, and a spare battery, but the spare battery was causing me some issues, so that won't be a selling point)

I didn't really like any of the cases on the Moto site, unfortunately. But I've looked around some more and found a few options, that I'll probably order within the next few days, so they arrive before the phone gets here.

Howdy and welcome to the wonderful world of Moto X. It's great phone and I am sure you'll love it.

Here are some case options for you. I love the "dimple" on the middle of the back of the phone, I bet you will too. These provide great protection (you can use a screen protector too if you like) and lots of color options while still letting you take advantage of the dimple! Cheap too. (never bad)
:D

Amazon.com: Hyperion Motorola Moto X Phone Matte TPU Case and Screen Protector (Compatible with Sprint Motorola Moto X Phone / XFON XT1056, and AT&T Motorola X Phone / XFON XT1058, and Verizon Wireless Moto X Phone) **Hyperion Retail Packaging** [2 Y

You are very welcome. There are a few other options that are similar that have the dimple cut out, but these are cheap work exceptionally well and are extremely pocketable. They are not slick in the hand but do not pick up lint and what not in your pocket (or purse :D). I got the clear and black (I like subtle) but the red and purple look real nice too.

well, the phone arrived today - earlier than expected - and I was unprepared. So I took a trip out to several stores today, looking for a case. Verizon, Target, and Best Buy - nothing caught my eye. Verizon had several, but they were all too bulky. Target had one - the Speck Candy Shell -which isn't bad, design wise, but I HATE the color combos. Best Buy had about the same results. So I might head over to the AT&T store tomorrow to see what they have, but I'm not optimistic. I'll probably also order one online tonight.

I went ahead and ordered the purple one.

I found a Ballistic LS Jewel Aspira case in purple - it looked really nice except for the oddly shaped "corners" - that turned me off pretty quickly. I like the sleekness of this phone, I don't want to ruin it with a case that doesn't follow its curves.

Thanks for this thread! I ordered my Moto X yesterday with expected arrival date next week as well. This is very helpful information. If anyone has any other tips/advice please post it for us new converts.

I hope you love yours as much as I love mine!

I always thought the S3 was just a tad too large, and the Moto X is perfect for my smaller hands, and doesn't sacrifice much screen size at all. The biggest challenge I've had so far is finding the right case - let's face it though, part of that might be reluctance to put a case on it at all...it's a damned nice looking phone without a case.

My line of work can be "rough" on phones, so I always buy an Otterbox Defender for my phones. From reading your previous posts, I'm guessing my case would not be nearly pretty or sparkly enough for your needs----but I think pretty and sparkly would clash with my uniform. :)

Nope, I find Otterbox cases to be much too bulky and I've never liked the colors. Plus, I have no need for that much protection. My first case should arrive tomorrow, and I have a few others in my amazon shopping cart to buy when I get paid on Friday. One colorful and one sparkly.
