Root [Virgin Mobile] [ROM][MK5][STOCK][ODEXED/DEODEXED]- Virgin Mobile/Boost Mobile

Hello!

I wiped system, cache, dalvik. Then I flashed the Deodexed rom, wifi fix, SuperSU, and KNOX app remover.

On its first reboot, it worked great, started up and made it to the Wi-Fi scanning page in the first boot. However it then froze and then restarted.

But this time its just stuck at the Samsung GALAXY SIII splash screen. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Using Philz 6 I believe

More troubles:

So now every time I hit "wipe data/factory reset" it just resets.

Even more bad news:
My god what is going on. It just randomly resets whenever it's flashing or doing any sort of operation.

I have not heard of the issues you are having. Did you verify the md5 before flashing? Try downloading the rom again, this time with your pc, and using Philz, wipe everything, data, cache, dalvik, and try again. Once the rom boots, let it settle a bit. But there seems to be something conflicting with the system. Did you restore any apps or system data using titanium backup or any other backup program? Good luck!

Thanks for getting back to me!

Thankfully, my phone is working well now. I couldn't get it to really do anything because every attempt at wiping /data would cause it to restart. Eventually manually cleaned out everything I could and then installed ebildude123's 4.4.2 CM11. That also stayed on the Galaxy S3 splash screen but eventually actually worked.

Regardless, thank you!

If you did a full wipe in mine, you probably didn't let it settle long enough. It takes awhile. Just sayin :)

Never answered can I flash this if I have knox via ota update, it won't interest with it therefore I can flash it no problems if I want to revert to stock kernel? I have knox to specify and I world like to flash this rom that doesn't have knox in it, can thisbrick my phone, I need the guide or developer to answer this please!.

if you have knox dont flash anything that is not a mk5 4.3 Rom only if you flash a kernel it could soft brick to return to stock use kies 3 to restore or try the md5 stock recovery file i posted.

but wait till jd or other weigh in.

Actually, you can flash roms other than mk5 and you can also flash custom kernels.
Also, if you have Knox the LAST thing you want to do is return to md7 with Kies or you'll end up with a fancy brick! ;)

I have answered the same questions by mudflap2020 multiple times and I respectfully decline to repeatedly answer the same questions further. Though for you, lordmage, this may be of useful information. Please read this: http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?t=807185

Ok, mr. The Britton, I had a question about the CONTENT I WAS FLASHING, NOT ABOUT HOW IT WORKS! I understand you can flash older versions of android and not brick because it doesn't modify knox, therefore, in thory knox doesnt care and take no precuations or BRICK. But I already know this and you answered to this already. My inquiry was if, pacaged in this zip, was something was truss to modify knox, which will trip the knox flag and ultimately brick ny device, this was because this rom said that it doesn't come with knox and all the apps, associated with it, which made me concern over, if this didn't have knox in it, then it would try to modify it because it doesn't have knox supported, and my other conceived ideas that would make me think that flashing this rom a bad idea. It seems people. are thinking that others on this forum are less intelligent. I mean there are more step by step instructions than there is information, this is something that wasn't in the victory forums, I can't help but obsurve this, but part of this is probably because this phone is owned by so many people and trends to more audiences, but that is just a theory, because why would so many people try to root if they don't understand what it is in the first place, but that's just my opinion.

Knox only cares about the Bootloader. As long as you don't try to change the Bootloader it doesn't matter what you flash. As long as you don't try to go from MK5 to say MD7 for example. Also, don't use Kies on cpu, nothing but problems. By the way, why are you worried about tripping Knox? If you have a custom recovery you've already tripped Knox by using Odin.

A Bootloader can be modified through Odin. That's why i have said use Odin for your recovery and your recovery only. I've never seen a ROM that has changed the Bootloader before. If you're ready to root and flash then I say go for it. I have Knox and, I believe TheBritton does as well, I'm currently on CM11 with DKPs latest kernel thanks to struckn, TheBritton and jdsingle76.

Is there any benefit for upgrading to mk5? I'm on the latest CM 11 nightly with no issues, running the same modem I flashed from the first few weeks of this devices existence. Does the MK5 modem have better wifi/data speeds or fix 4g? Otherwise I'm not sure I see the point of upgrading when things are working well.

I really need to install this as soon as I get a fully working laptop, this rooted sprint rom that my phone is driving me insane since it has no MMS and still nags me to update. I'm completely new to flashing but I want to learn to if it kills me. I hope you get a rooted build out soon.

Hey, your back.

First things first... relax... OK?
DO NOT worry about Sprint vs. Virgin, that really isn't very important and your situation isn't really that bad... not bad at all.

If you start a NEW THREAD/TOPIC, I'll try to walk you through what you need to do. I am fairly sure we can get you onto jd's stock 4.3 using just the phone.

Doing things without a PC is sort of my specialty... Start a thread and I'll reply. Just say "help" in the body if you want... We'll edit it later.

Hey!
I have a quick question. A few hours ago I had 4.1.2 with Virgin mobile & I tried upgrading to 4.3 because I would get that new update pop up every hours or so and I tried upgrading but it wouldn't let me, I'm guessing cause I was rooted and it only allows unrooted phones. So I went on the search for a unroot for the 4.1.2 and couldn't find one until I came across to "Update Sprint Galaxy S3 SPH-L710 to Official 4.3 L710VPUCMK3 (Odin and OTA Stock Method)" and I used it. As it updated to that I noticed that I got switched to Sprint and it wasn't Virgin any more. Everything works excepts the Data (4G) & I was wondering if there's a way to get everything back, since I didn't backup any files. I know that was stupid since I'm new to all this rooting and etc... I was wondering if this would help me. Can anyone please help me. Thanks!

Ouch.. you should have looked in the virgin mobile sub forum first. Unfortunately your now phone has the dreaded Knox bootloader. There is a fairly simple update by @jdsingle76 you could have flashed in recovery to get the update without your phone getting Knoxed up. Whatever you do, DO NOT TRY TO DOWNGRADE BACK TO 4.1.2 WITH ODIN!! Because of Knox it will brick your phone.

You can still root your phone and apply the correct update but you'll never be able to get rid of the knox bootloader. :(

Check out the stickies here:

There are lots of friendly people over there that can help you out if you make a new thread.

Edit: Just saw your post in the MK5 thread over there. The phone is working so as long as you're careful you'll get it straightened out. Don't be afraid to ask questions and ask as many as you need to! Good luck :)

User @lordmage was kind enough to post the MK5 stock OTA file in this thread here:

http://androidforums.com/virgin-mobile-galaxy-s3-all-things-root/808203-knoxed-keis-file-4-3-a.html

I must say though, to not have any backups available AND to push Sprint firmware is very much not a smart move at all. Nothing wrong with being a noob, we all were at one point, but proper searching and not being afraid to ask questions BEFORE forging ahead would have saved you a lot of headache. Now that I'm done ranting, you *should* be able to push the correct stock firmware using Odin and then proceed from there. No guarantees, this is at your own risk.

Can anyone port over the new wicked sensations touchwiz rom to virgin mobile no matter what I try to do the rom always stop working right or doesn't work right from the beginning ?!?

Is there a way to install the 4.1.2 Samsung keyboard on the deodexed rom? I keep tapping on the option button by accident and it's really getting annoying. I don't recall the 4.1.2 keyboard having that. Awesome job, keep up the amazing work! Also, not sure if it's just me, but that SuperSu 1.80 zip file didn't want to install when I flashed it after installing the ROM..however, after downloading SuperSu 1.86 and flashed it..it did stay installed. Dunno if that might be helpful for others.

I put my last post on your thread because I thought you'd be the best man for possibly giving it a shot !! An most likely to get it working properly !!

I appreciate the vote of confidence bro. I'm swamped with working on my MBA at the moment, but if I get some time, I'll take a stab at it

Good luck buddy! As far as Wicked, or any other TW ROM, they don't need "porting" to work, they work right out of the box, with just an APN fix needed. Sounds more like a bad download or some other issue.
