Hi everyone. I hope you are all enjoying your wonderful devices. I have a question that I have a feeling I know the answer to but thought it was worth a shot to ask.

I have tried many keyboards and really like quite a few. I could use Swype with Dragon or Swiftkey Beta all day for their swiping options, but REALLY love the Samsung keyboard for the handwriting option.

Is there an option to have one keyboard open up as the default and then ANOTHER for when the PEN comes out? I am aware of how to sort of quickly change from one keyboard to the next, but was hoping that there was a better way.

Thanks so much for your help. Maybe there'a an app out there that can control it? Thanks again and take care.

That's actually a great question, but unfortunately I haven't seen/found a solution yet. I am in a similar boat. I love using the handwriting option on the Note 3 (as compared to the Note 2, which wasn't quite as good as the Note 3, when it came to using the handwriting-to-text).

As much as I love Swiftkey (especially Beta, with the additional number row), I really enjoy using the handwriting option whenever I have my S-pen deployed.

Exactly my issue.
I'm forcing myself to try to enjoy the swiping of the Samsung keyboard, but it just can't compare to the others like Swype or Swiftkey Beta.

Thanks for the replies though. At least I know I'm not alone.

As soon as my students go to art, I'm going to give this a whirl! Thanks to both of you!

It's a decent option. The only thing i don't like is the notification option requires the icon to stay on the notification bar. Otherwise, definitely useful. Trying to make it a toggle through widgetsoid now, but haven't been able to find the file that goes directly to the action. I think widgetsoid requires the phone to be rooted in order to create action toggles now

While I so appreciate the effort, I don't see a big change from simply pulling down the notification bar and changing the method there. Not to knock it, but I'd love one that recognizes that the pen has been pulled out and changes to a predetermined option. Again, not complaining, because what I'm asking for is very lazy on my part. Just wondering. Thank you again!

Yeah, I really don't think an app exists that will do that. Not a very high demand for that type of functionality, considering it would only apply to the Note series (either phone or tablet).

But...I JUST found something that works!

Got to Menu>Settings>Controls>S Pen>Toggle "Direct pen input" so that it's On.

That will display the handwriting pad on the text input area when the S Pen is detected.

After you've done that, go to text messaging or gmail or email. Hover the S Pen over an area that you would normally use the standard keyboard, and you should see a little pop-up box, w/ a pencil, come up. It's a grey box and very small. When you click on that, a window comes up, where you can write a message.

Here's is a screenshot of what I'm talking about (circled the indicator that comes up):

In testing this out, it didn't work in Twitter and some other apps, but worked in the one that I would want it the most, which is text messaging. Swype beta is now my dedicated keyboard!

Hello, I was just wondering how to get the pen function to work on the main message area of the default email program. I can get it to work for the "To", "Cc" and "Subject" fields but not in the main message area.

Nice...trying this now.

Welcome to the forum!
I sincerely apologize that I cannot answer that. I have literally no experience with the default email app as I use Gmail. I hope someone more capable can help you with that.
