Black screen

When I first bought my phone the screen would go black. This isn't the normal phone-going-to-sleep, but more so the screen would go black, but I could still touch icons and stuff (it'd make a noise), receive texts, etc... I just couldn't see anything unless I restarted my phone.

The fix for this, at least for me so far, has been to remove the battery for an hour or two and put it back in.

Sounds to me you got a damaged or refurbished phone. The only solution is to replace it.

I recieved my Kyocera Rise for a Christmas present this past 2013. I have had problem's with it from the get go. First, it keep freezing up and I had to constantly reboot.Yesterday my screen turned black. Everything seems to be working but the screen. I never thought about it being a refurished or damaged phone.Instead you would think you would not have any problem's it being new and all. I do have a replacement phone coming. My question is this, how can I safely unmount my sd card when I can't get into my phone to do so? Thanks in advance.

It's been freezing and needing reboot, which I assume you've been doing by pulling the battery. That's as unsafe of an unmount as anything else. If it still scares you, despite the fact that you've already had plenty of unsafe unmounts, you could try to shut it down properly. Click power button once to wake it. No need to unlock. After releasing the button and waiting a moment, hold the power button to bring up the shut down dialog. "Power off" is about 35% down the height of the screen, tap there.
