N1 probably one of the biggest scams of all time

I am trolling

That's all I really saw so I stopped reading...

I would love to send it in to HTC, but of course they want to put a $600 hold on my credit card, investigate it for weeks and then send me another unit, probably refurbed that will still have the same 3G issues, etc.

If they put the hold on your credit card, then you get the replacement phone first, you are never without a phone. Once they get your phone back, the hold is cancelled.
If you don't want the $600 hold on your card, then they will put a $28 hold on your card, you ship your phone back, and they will then ship you a replacement phone.
Le bon Dieu est dans le detail

ps it's $529, which generally would round to $500

I dont feel scammed at all. I paid full price on the phone and got a good non contract deal with tmobile. The phone itself it as good as i expected, i cant complain at all. Everything is smooth with this phone. Took a little getting used to coming from a storm but after about a week or two its comfortable as can be.

Thanks. That's actually reasonable. I can get a loaner phone. When I did my AE it wasn't an option....

and I'm very sorry the guy above who read "I am trolling"... if I wrote that, it meant to say I am not.

Several of you have been really helpful and I'm grateful. Like I said, I love the N1, it simply doesn't work. This is my 2nd unit and I'm just kind of fed up with the whole process. Like the other poster said, the main reason I got this phone was because I felt I was getting the "real deal" because it was straight from google... knowing that the new Verizon Phone is basically a "fixed" N1 and doesn't come with the bloatware one would expect makes it very intriguing, although Sprint has better rate plans and GREAT coverage where I live.

I did try to change the network settings, but I heard that AT&T has canceled a lot of roaming agreements with T-Mobile. It shows up in the networks, but if I try to register on it the phone tells me I am "Not allowed" to register my device.

I will say in hindsight my topic title was about as over dramatic as could be and for that I apologize.

Thanks for the help...I will try my Google voice, I just use my phone for business and I think it will be annoying to have to tell all of my contacts...BTW, this is me.

First of all, and most importantly anytime you start a paragraph with "I'm not a troll, but..." means you are a troll. Secondly stating the N1 is "the biggest scam of all time" is utterly ignorant, you had 14 days to figure out if you wanted to keep the phone or send it back for a refund, now your going to have to sell it on ebay, craigslist or kijiji for marginally less than what you paid for it. I went through this exact process with my Palm Pre and I am much happier now.

First of off... no it doesn't. Good try though.

Secondly... I didn't get a full 14 days because of the AE I had to do days after my first one bricked. I tried.

Over all, I know the woes of early adoption, but I would have to say I have owned 30 phones in the last 2 years, each cheaper than this one, and never had so many problems. That's all I was trying to get at....

That and the fact Google dropped the 3G investigation and canceled the Verizon release seems as though they KNOW it's riddled with issues and have no plans on fixing them or recalling the handsets.

Sorry to disappoint. Good call with the 4G iPhone to the other poster, but I have seen Apple test their products to death and also seen GREAT support from them. I know there are several other stories to contradict that statement, but in my personal history, and my friends history with Apple, no problems.

I really don't want an iPhone though, I want to stick with Android. I would be lying though if I said I wasn't curious.

Overall, with all of the dust under the screen issues, 3G problems, etc, it seems like this phone was not field tested to a reasonable extent which I normally don't see from HTC. All of my past HTC phones have been reasonably reliable. I don't see or hear that with the N1 generally, and as time passes, it only seems to get worse for many.

I already said sorry for the title. What else do you want?

I feel sorry for the OP. I have seen the signal issue / 3G issue first hand. When I got the phone, every time I picked up the phone to text and call the signal would drop and I couldn't do anything. It was very frustrating.

I got lucky, one day I looked down the street and saw a Crane putting a new mast up. 2 days later - rock solid 3G.

If this hadn't happened I don't know if I would be still on this forum now singing the praises of this device? Would I even still have it? I'm not so sure.

System6 - I hope you get things sorted, there's a device out there that suits you.

To those of you calling "troll" when he clearly isn't... There's a site for you lot who want to comment rubbish without adding to a discussion, it's called Engadget.

There were some comments made regarding Google/HTC and relating them to 'scamming' us consumers.

1. Not working the 3G issue - They may not be working the issue at this time because they may have already figured out the issue (or think they have), and have the fix packaged up in Froyo awaiting release. I would guess if Froyo still has issues they will continue their efforts to determine what is the main cause of the issue.

2. Google not putting the Nexus on Verizon - I am speculating, but would guess that the decision was more around Verizon than it was with Google. And for AT&T, how difficult would it be to swap out the radio to work with AT&T's network - SIM cards make it very easy to use the phone on their network, how does that work on CDMA?

3. Google selling a lackluster phone due to Incredible - I seriously doubt that Google forced HTC to not make any better phones than the Nexus. Google made a deal with HTC to produce a phone with certain features, HTC then, looking at all the phones being produced, decided to make another phone with different features (though similar). That is just part of the world of cell phones isn't it???

I am personally enjoying my Nexus One. There are times when it slows down or lags, but I still consider the android os closer to beta software, and I am happy to be playing with something different and new. Much happier on this phone than the locked down iphone world. But that is just one man's opinion...

You say that you're not a troll, that all you want is opinions and ideas, bit everyone who disagrees with you you flame, and anyone who suggests that doing something other than what you've clearly already decided to do is dismissed and flamed. You're a troll. Close the thread and sell your phone and stop whining. Its not scamming, maybe you got a defective device, but as I said, if they've offered you a repair, their not trying to scam you. A scam would be if they sold the phones and offered no support whatsoever for them.

I haven't "flamed" anyone except for people who have "flamed me". People can disagree, and I am happy to hear people are satisfied with their N1, I simply am not, and I am worried that some of Googles actions are leaning towards them admitting that THEY are not satisfied with the quality of phone that was made.

Again, I apologize for the over dramatic title. People can disagree, but when I say things like "This is my 2nd device, and I have tried several SIM cards" and "Please read my other posts" and people just call me an idiot or offer no opinion or insight, it seems unhelpful.

If I am a troll....why are you feeding me?

I am sorry if I have upset some of you, I am just disappointed and wondering how everyone else felt, and if anyone had any ideas other than the basics. (I know there were some radios floating around that seemed to work better for many)

Maybe I will get an iPhone, maybe the EVO 4G (<- Much more likely), but I don't "HATE" Google, Android, or HTC. I am just wondering if this might have been a flop.

I'm fine with being an early adopting unpaid beta tester for android. looking forwards to 2.2, the seamless updating was the specific reason I picked this over the desire.

Using the AT&T 850Mhz version in Australia on an 850Mhz 3G carrier, zero hardware issues aside from once a week crazy multitouch which I can deal with. Absolutely love this phone aside from battery life.

I feel for your 3G issue but its very possible you're just the unlucky sod that got the one dud unit in the batch. Since you can't hardware replace I guess we'll never find out. I have however also read lots of stuff re: US carriers and 3G issues, which over here on my carrier we don't have to worry about (now getting reamed on cost, thats another issue lol).

Ya the biggest scam of all time lol. Nexus One wasn't meant to get into the masses anyways am I correct on this??

Point of this phone was to show the world what Android can do! Google proved it. So u can call it a successful Flop(flop part being they didn't sell as many) Google gave away lots of free Nexus One's to android app devs!! That was smart!!!

Anyways.. lets continue the biggest scam of all time when Google issues an Over The Air update sometime in late May, and receive our Android 2.2 FroYo update with full flash support lol. Oh and the bug fixes of course.

i was somewhat disappointed with the T-Mobile version and the 3G connection issues. but, i sold the T-Mo version got the at&t version and (for me) it's been a much better experience. no 3G connection issues at all; and i'm using a Nandroid backup made with my T-Mobile version. not a perfect phone (show me one that is) but now that i'm using the at&t version, it's the best phone to meet my expectations.

Ah well, my phone has the occasional issue but when 2.2 comes out, it may solve some of the bugs.....

And, at least with phone, I can do what I want with the hardware - look at how difficult the new Sense phones are to root LOL.
Really now? Rumors are churning that the Droid Incredible may have root done soon.

It's still unfortunate that the touch screen issue still persists, I was almost convinced that the delay on the Verizon version was to replace that Clearpad2000 with the better maXTouch--but maybe they'll do that for the Sprint version.

In any case. I can't wait to see what 2.2 brings.

I concur and shifted to the ATT version without any issues on 3G -- even on international travels to Singapore and Tokyo!

I will just assume you haven't read anything I have said....

A. I have already swapped it out once
B. Root it and risk voiding the warranty so I can't send it back in (?)
C. I have swapped SIM cards and manually updated the radio through the bootloader without unlocking and rooting
D. I have changed SIM cards several time.. .I am and HAVE tried to fix it

Honestly, when you talk about OS and brand loyalty too, didn't I just say I didn't want to abandon Android as an OS and the next major purchase as far as a handset goes is an HTC? ( I am aware you are talking to someone else, but still)

I am opening discussion, asking if others feel the same, searching for solutions, and venting a little...possible venting a LOT... It's responses like these talking about "brand loyalty" that make these troll threads....

No one here has any reason to blindly follow any OS or brand, and if they do.... well I think it's foolish. I personally REALLY like Android for an OS at the moment and HTC handsets. (I just feel the N1 wasn't one of their best releases and they are not addressing customers and issues in a reasonable manner)

If something more functional, cooler, faster, etc comes by tomorrow, don't think I won't change my mind... Sorry some of us think for ourselves.

When your ready to sell let me know, i love my n1, and would like to pick one up for my lady..Blame tmoible coverage in your area for the lack of 3g..it is not a google problem..so sell me your tmobile N1 and you can buy an Att version that WONT have the same 3g issuses because att 3g penetration is stronger than Tmobile..so please let me know when ur ready to sell
