GSM Galaxy Nexus vs Nexus 5 battery life?

I read a comparison of the Verizon GNex and the Nexus 5 and it said the Nexus 5 battery life was better BUT he also said his Verizon GNex battery was dead after 6 hours, even if not used. It said the Nexus 5 has about twice the battery life. So for that person that would put the Nexus 5 at 12 hours with no use?

My GSM Gnex lasts about 24 hours with medium use. Am I going to lose battery life by upgrading? Or were the Verizon models worse as far as battery life?

I don't have a Verizon nexus 5 but mine is brutal on battery.

I'm lucky to get 10 hours with 1-2 screen on on an average work day.

Do you use google now? Because I've only just started using it on my N5, and it uses considerably more battery than when i had google now and location reporting turned off. I could easily go a day and a half with moderate useage.

I don't think I do. So that means I probably don't. I keep gps turned off when I'm not using it and most location services turned off (I keep the weather one turned on since we live in tornado alley).

Well in that case, I think you'll find the battery more than sufficient.

I went from a GSM GNex to an N5.

For me the N5 has much better battery life and thats with Now running all the time and with wifi and location services on all the time. I found I used to switch most of these off on my GNex.

At the end of a typical day I now get home after 12 hours unplugged with around 50% free. That used to be nearer 30% with the GNex.

Both rooted and rooted AOKP and Francos kernel

My GNex battery life turned horrible within the first year. No such problems so far with the N5.

Shame about that for the GNex as in a lot of ways I liked it better than the Nexus 4.

The battery life on my Verizon gnex was atrocious by the time I got rid of it. I carried around 2 extra batteries to swap out during the day. I was lucky to get 6 hrs out of it with minimal to no use. The N5 is light-years better for me. I can practically get a full day even with moderate to heavy usage. Then again that might just be because my N5 is relatively new still. Ask me again in a year or so haha. Because my gnex definitely didn't suck so hard when I first got it either...

I think my 24 hour estimate was a little wrong. Or a lot. I didn't account for the amount of time it's on the charger (usually while I sleep so 6-7 hours) and the fact that I don't even take it off the charger until after I've been up for a few hours. Hopefully the N5 will be at least as good. I can't swap out batteries easily in my Gnex. It has a hard clear case that is a beeyotch to take off.

N5 vs the G Nex is night and day. My N5 can last almost twice as long as my G Nex did with the same usage patterns. It may not be twice as long exactly, but it is noticeably better. To the point where I decided I don't need my Anker portable battery charger anymore.

I'd just like to add that mine will recharge from below 20% to 100% in a couple of hours or less. No need to leave it on overnight.

I own(ed) both of these phones (I recently gave the Galaxy Nexus to my mother in law).

The Nexus 5 is better on battery, but your results will vary. The Nexus 5 is a bit schizophrenic.. sometimes the battery life is stellar and other times I look at it and wonder where all my juice went.
