Help Milestone Airplane Mode - Cannot Restore Radio?

Hi there,

If I turn on Airplane mode, and turn it off within 10 seconds, I can get it working again. But if I leave it on for any longer than that, I have to turn off the phone and restart in order to get the raido working again.

The funny thing is, I can still use the Wifi, BT, and GPS raido's after turning Airplane mode off, even if the main raido won't work. And also, if rebooting after an Airplane mode maulfunction, my auto-brightness doesn't work. It forces me to go into the phone setup and disable, then re-enable the auto brightness fucntion.

I'm running a Telus Milestone with Android 2.1 update 1, and it's given me the same results with both the original Telus firmware, and the Thai 2.1 update 1 firmware, which I am presently running.

Hmmm, 50+ views and no reply's? That's nice...

Doesn't matter, as I seem to have found my own combo of fixes which seem to work on the Thai 2.1u1 FW...

First step is this:

1) Go to dialer, put in *#*#4636#*#*
2) Press Phone Information
3) Press Menu, and pick Select Radio Band (ITS NORMAL TO GET A FORCE CLOSE)
4) Go down and change GSM Auto(PRL) to WCDMA Only
5) Shut off the radio for about 1 minute and then restart

Second step is to goto Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks -> Network operators, and manually select your default carrier; in my instance it was listed as "Fido". Make sure you get the "Sucessfully registered" message.

Last step, applicable to only some of you, is to uninstall "Network Info" by alt236. This app seems to initiate crashes of the radio once the phone is placed into Airplane mode, and all it really does is give the user easy access to the same info that you normally get by dialing *#*#4636#*#* in the Phone app.

That's about it, if you try these steps and it works for you, report back here. Cheers!
