LG G3 or HTC M8?

I'm currently an iPhone 5S user and I'm looking for something new to try but don't know which phone to get since they're so many choices and they all seem fantastic, which is why I'm here. I thought I ask current LG G3 owners but I'm feeling everyone is going to say this phone is awesome since I'm in the G3 sub haha.

I think I've gotten it down to two choices, the G3 or the M8. Samsung is eliminated due to my horrible experience with them (the Captivate and S3) and because my company has banned Samsung phones from being used at work. Anyways, I can't seem to pick between the G3 or M8. Both seem like awesome phones. I'm leaning towards the G3 but I've heard reports of it lagging/over heating/poor display in sunlight. Have any of these issues been present for you guys?

HTC M8 would seem like the easiest transition from the iPhone but a 4MP camera and no replaceable battery makes me want to look the other way. My iPhone battery isn't the best. It usually lasts me throughout the day but around 6-7pm I'll have to plug it in.

What are your guys thoughts? Can anyone convince me to get the LG G3 over the M8?

I'm probably one of the few that has owned both.

The M8 is a nice phone. Excellent screen (albeit smaller at 5"), fantastic front facing speakers, solid overall build quality. I did not like the tall skinny shape, or the slippery metal finish, however. Ridiculous battery life. Sense us good, though it feels a but ling in the tooth at this point.

The G3, in comparison, has a larger, even better screen. Sound is good for rear facing, but no comparison to the M8. Also good build quality, but with a better overall shape and layout. Very good battery life, but not quite up to par compared to the M8. I prefer LG's UI to sense in virtually every way.

I ended up returning the M8 after a week of ownership. The G3 is staying with me for the foreseeable future.

5" vs 5.5" in about the same form factor.

The sound from the cell phone speaker matters?

Are you guys being serious here?

Where are you going to use it?

I can't really convince you one way or another cause I had the same two phones that it boiled down to for me. I really wasn't keen on the 4MP camera either (good low light performance though). That and the fact that I could get a 5" screen (same as in my DNA), or I could get a bigger 5.5" screen in almost the same footprint.

What I can say is that I have no regrets and would make the same choice again. The G3 has not disappointed in the slightest but I really don't think you can go wrong with the M8 either. Figure out what is important to you and decide which phone has the fewest compromises...that's my advice.

I am also a 5s user. However I got my G3 as an additional device instead of a replacement.

There isn't really much of a transition from an iPhone. That would sort of be like transitioning from a car to a motorcycle.

You're going to have a learning curve no matter which android device you choose.

With that said. I love both platforms and I chose the G3 because of the LG UI.

Regardless of which device you choose; read all the tips and tricks posts and articles you can find before you purchase your new device. This will make the learning curve a little easier.

I also considered both the M8 and the G3. I ended up choosing the G3, and I would do it again in a second. I love my G3, have not had any issues whatsoever with lag, heat, sound, nothing. My wife also got a G3 at the same time and she loves it. None of us find it to be too big. It is truly an awesome phone. And I was an HTC owner for the last 6 years!

Damn, it's like a 50-50 split. I like the smoothness of the UI on the M8 but god damn, there's something about that G3 that's making me want it more. I've been doing some research on the G3 and wondering if you guys have had any issues with lag? I've read some forums and articles where there's been some complaints about that. I find it hard to believe though that a phone with the latest processor and 3gb of ram (32gb variant) can lag.

Also, is it hard to view the screen in sunlight? I doubt this will affect me because most of my time I'm inside an office working except the weekends.

I own both.and yes i've had lag and stutter with the G3. I believe its because the CPU/GPU is having to work harder to produce the QHD display(all the extra pixels its rendering) Remember its virtually the same chip that is powering the latest 1080 phones. It reminds me of the lag and stutter I had with my Nexus 10 which had a high resolution (not as bad though). The M8 is silky smooth in comparison. If I had the choice I'd choose the G3s design with the M8s performance (and G3s camera as the M8s is awful).

I chose the G3 coming from the M7 and I am at my final days of the trial. I am currently researching if I'm missing something about this dang battery! IDK if I was spoiled with the M7 or what but this thing is ridiculous on battery in my almost 2 weeks. You can watch it drain using location and maps.

You may want to look into that.
Everything else is awesome! I mainly chose the G3 because HTC was boring me since that's about all i've ever owned and I wasn't sure about the M8 camera (m7 cam wasn't so good).

I think I'd rather have battery after being afraid to lose battery while traveling w/o a car charger. Did get some great scenic pics though! I travel for work, so don't get me wrong, it just may not be for me. Waiting on a report from a buddy that has had it longer than I while I research others opinions.

Did you see this thread? Several people have shared their experiences there. Battery life has been great for some and not so great for others.

Direct sun is okay for me. I don't think it's the best phone in this regard but it's more than acceptable IMO.

It really comes down the what is most important to you.

I like the m8 because of the metal body, super quick/no lag and simple UI, excellent music enhancing software for headphones and external speakers, HTC advantage, excellent battery life and saver software, and more accurate colors.
I liked the LG's main camera, no bezels, and multi tasking.

My girlfriend has come from Apple and really liked sense UI. Obviously your opinions may differ but the UI could really impact your choice. Definitely make sure you try them both out.

Went ahead and ordered my metallic black LG G3 off amazon for $99! I went to best buy today to play with the M8 and G3 and liked the G3 more. It was a tough choice since both phones had their trade offs but I think I made the right choice! It comes in Wednesday and I'm pretty stoked. I hope I don't get all the issues that some users have reported, although the one I played with in the store seemed pretty quick and had no lag.

Light to medium user = G3 for sure

Heavy user = M8 perhaps

If more an audio fan the M8 is better based on the 3.5mm output and stereo speakers. The display on the M8 looks better (contrast), but the G3 has MUCH better navigation bar hiding. LG did a far better job than HTC to keep the display space from being WASTED by the navigation bar.

If pushed in a corner though, I would side with the G3- in spite of my one issue with the G3 that I dare not mention again :) ;)

I guess everyone is different, but for me, having a phone with a replaceable battery is a far better option in heavy usage situations that it is to have a phone with a non replaceable battery that gets maybe 25% better battery life. I don't get how a phone with a replaceable battery would get low marks for a heavy user.

Performance more than battery. I notice the G3 runs warmer and throttles with heavier content and ties into my one and only concern of the device. Too much overhead for the 801, as per reviews and my own testing.

If you do not mind the performance hit, no harm no foul :) If coming from an S3 or similar device, the G3 is better regardless. The comparison here though is the G3 and M8.

Congrats on the new phone. Let us know how you end up liking it. I don't know what Amazon's return policy or restocking fees are (do they just follow the carriers policies?) but you should keep your options open. If you don't think you made the right decision during the "trial" period, go back and get the M8 instead.

It took me a couple of days to be sure I made the right choice personally.

I think it all comes down to your needs, really. I'd never say that either is a "better" choice, for someone else, unless I truly knew how they used their phone and what functions are most important for their daily needs.

HTC m8 advantages over the G3
- Front facing speakers
- Smaller width
- Metal unibody

G3 advantages over the m8
- 5.5 inch screen (Only slightly wider than m8 (height virtually identical))
- 2k Screen (although, this is debatable for some)
- Removable battery and bigger at 3000mah
- Wireless Charging capable (without needing to use the microUSB port)

I think, when looking at all that both have to offer, it comes down to having a slightly smaller overall form factor with excellent sound or having slightly bigger overall form factor with a big screen w/ higher resolution and decent sound.

The build quality on the M8 and G3, I think they both take the cake (so far) this year.

This is extremely good, accurate advice.

It's the very reason that when I give my opinion on more than one phone, I usually say something to the effect of "for my needs or preferences" I deliberately and purposely never claim any phone to be the best, because there's simply too many variables that may or may not appeal to others.

I celebrate the plethora of choices we have in the land of Android, it's one of the reasons an enthusiast like me loves to own different models.

Even better is the option to root and modify them to my exact preferences. As a result I end up with a smartphone tailored to my needs and preferences, a very satisfying experience.

That is what is so great about having multiple choices for Android vs. the iPhone or other smartphones. The more the OEM's add features to force others to compete, the better it is for us as consumers. There will be phones that suit everyones personal needs without much sacrifice in specs

Fair enough then. I came from a GS3. Maybe I just don't know better, but I really have zero performance complaints about the G3, from battery to heat to speed.

Thank you, I most definitely will! Hopefully that will help some people out that are on the fence.

I checked Amazon's policy and you have 30 days to return the phone and to avoid a (possible) early termination fee from your carrier it's 14 days. I think that is quite generous! If I don't end up liking this phone I may just wait till December and see what else comes out.
