Help Flip the phone over for silent mode????

I've noticed that my notifications were sporadic, both from e-mail and messages. I think I even missed a call once and was surprised because I never heard it ring/vibrate.

After some testing I think I've figured out that when the phone is in my pocket, and I'm sitting at my office desk, the phone is face down in that same, fairly flat level position, that turns the ringer off if you flip your phone over on a desk while in a meeting.

Is there any way to turn this feature off?

In the settings, under Sound & Display, they have "Quiet ring on pickup". I haven't noticed this happening just for having it left upside now, but could it be that you are just moving it enough that it turns the ring off before you notice it?

Quiet ring on pick up decreases the volume of your ringtone when the phone detects you picking it up. It doesn't affect the flip-down mode. I haven't been able to find a setting to turn this off :-\

Yeah, I realized after looking at that setting, it was not what I wanted. I look and can't find the setting I want. I also have search all over and don't see any other thread that mentions this.

in the booklet it says when you receive a call, with the phone screen facing up, turn the phone over and lay it on its face to ignore calls or texts. This may be happening to you.

And for the camera hater, get the Verizon silicone case! It makes the cam lens flush and keeps screen off surfaces when laying on face. It makes the phone easier to handle and it looks so sweet. I got for $12 @ verizon store.

I have no problem with setting the phone down on it's back. The camera lens is recessed, so I don't worry. However, I frequently toss the phone down onto the sofa next to me when I'm at home, and sometimes it just so happens to land face down.

Thanks for the responses everyone, and while I agree with Jon that I like this feature, I just don't want it happening while the phone is in my pocket and I want to revieve notifications. I'm still not sure if this is the issue with sporadic notifications, but that is why I'd like to turn it off (if possible) test further.

i would think its the act of flipping the phone over while its ringing that mutes it. That would make the most sense so it doesn't happen while in pocket or when you just put it down.

Yeah, I thought that too, so I tested and called the phone when it was face down on my desk in front of me. It didn't ring or notify me with a missed call. I sent a couple of e-mails to myself and sent a text to the phone and nada. I picked up the phone and it had all the notifications but never sounded off. I then placed the phone face down and called it again. This time after a few rings I picked up the phone, and it started ringing. I do like this feature, but not when it's in my pocket. The obvious work around is to put the phone in my pocket with it facing the other way; however, the reason I put it in my pocket with the face against my leg is for better protection. I kept my old touch screen phone in my pocket this way and remember it occasionally getting hit by things I've bumped into.

This is great news, because it means that their is a setting that can be changed.

Yes, the Tips, Hints and Shortcuts picture booklet. Read it cover to cover, all the way to "Welcome to Verizon Wireless. It's the Network" and while I did see this feature mentioned, it failed to mention how to turn it off. Or on for Howie.

Thanks for all the help guys, I don't mean to make this a bigger issue than it is, I just though someone might have known where this setting is. Maybe it's just me, and the phone in my pocket is picking up interference from the titanium hip join I had put in a couple of years ago. Maybe the setting is only available through debug, or something at the system level, I'll have to do more research.

I had mine face down and not plugged in sitting on the couch next to me and rang. Guessing there is more to it... perhaps it doesn't just use the sensors to see it is face down, but to sense it is being turned over. On my second test call I had it face down and while it was ringing I turned it to be face up and it went silent.... it is strange, but I am sure it doesn't notify for things in the pocket.

LOL I had the phone face down next to me and only received 1/2 ring then vibrate when work called. When I try to recreate this it rings fine. Hour later work calls again while phone is face down and again 1/2 ring then vibrate.

I'm betting those who tried it and it rang just fine didn't wait till the phone shut the screen off and went in standby mode. I can recreate this after it sits a while face down but not right away after setting the phone down.

Hmm.. I like it other then when it does it in my pocket.
