Help Phone from hell.

So I just bought the LG G-3. It's the Verizon one. I've been messing around with it for a few days, and from what I can see, there's no option in settings to disable push notifications. Every app on the phone sends both a text notification in the notification bar at the top of the home screen and a sound notification. The phone sounds like a million people are texting me all day.

On top of this, the phone came pre-loaded with bloatware - like NFL Mobile, Amazon Kindle, and a host of other apps that ALWAYS stay running, even after I force quit them or disable them, and they burn through the battery of the phone.

Am I the only one who's had this problem with the G-3? Anyone have any advice?

Most apps have the option to disable notifications in their individual settings. If they don't, go into the application manager in the phone settings and uncheck "show notifications" for the apps that are still sending them.

A lot if the bloat apps can also be disabled from the application manager. The ones that can will no longer be active once you do this. Some can't be disabled though.

If you don't want to go as far as disabling all notifications for each app as was suggested above, you also can set each app's notification tone to Silent. You will still get a small icon in the notification bar (unless you disable all notifications) but at least it will not seem as if a million people are texting you all day any more.

Alternatively, you can just set your phone on Silent.

I take it this is your first Android phone? (No offense or insult intended, we ask so that we may help in the best way possible).

One man's bloatware is another man's treasure. I enjoy the free access to NFL Mobile (Data Usage is not counted towards your account) and Amazon Kindle (as I have a library on Amazon with over 200 books in it).

Obviously preinstalled apps aren't for everybody. But they've sure come a long way since VZ Navigator and Weatherbug.

Don't blame LG for the bloatware. You chose Verizon.

You may be able to disable some of it in the Application Manager.

Go to settings in your messages. You can choose to get a preview and a pop up when you get a message. Turn them off. Every app your getting a notification sound for, go into settings and disable notification sound or notification completely. Also in settings under sound or display I think you can choose silent mode, disable led notification, ect... Also you can change the subs that notifies you in each apps notification settings. Also if you download the spent protection app and upgrade, Theresa a section for apps abd you can actually delete, not just disable the bloatware installed. Pretty cool... oh shit wait.. You have Verizon.... well you can probably still do it lol. It didn't affect my bill to upgrade. You download the app in the Google play store.

It sounds like you might be coming from an iphone. Android handles push notifications differently than iOS. Also I noticed with my phone, a lot of the bloatware and normal lg apps, had one time only pop ups with a check box for do not show this again, kind of like a tutorial for the first few days.

Unlike my old motorola phones, very few of the bloatware apps on my verizon g3 seem to run in the background. I mean if you open an app, then it will stay in recent apps, and the g3 has 3gb's of ram so it holds quite a few in recent apps. Try restarting your phone and seeing whats running when you first start up. If that doesn't work try going into the apps and disabling push notifications or logging out of them, if you logged into them. Also try disabling if you never plan on using the app. I will say i had to go to application manager and clear the data to cancel the exercise/pedometer tracker from running 24/7, but if you never open it, it won't run.
