Less than two weeks ago we saw the release of the first stock Samsung firmware for the International, worldwide, Galaxy S5 model, SM-G900F, on CSC code XEO for Poland on release NL2. Today we have the enhancement, sometimes called, "bugfix", update for that same release in the shape of NL7...

Model: SM-G900F

Model name: GALAXY S5

Country: Poland

Version: Android 5.0

Changelist: 3548824

Build date: Thu, 11 Dec 2014 05:12:37 +0000

Product Code: XEO

PDA: G900FXXU1BNL7

CSC: G900FXEO1BNL1

MODEM: G900FXXU1BNL7

Here is a video of the latest release, courtesy of SamMobile...

Exclusive Final Preview - Android 5.0 Lollipop on Samsung Galaxy S5

(To find your version details, including your CSC code, on the International, worldwide, models, just enter *#1234# into your dial pad.)

Hopefully, if this release proves successful, we should start to see the roll out of Lollipop to the worldwide model over the next few weeks and months.

No news as yet of the minority carrier branded versions as this down to those particular operators to add their, "enhancements/features/modifications/bloatware", and, in some cases, release themselves and not via Samsung.

#1.0 A week after the release of the NL7, Lollipop, update for Poland, there is now a new Android 5.0 update. This takes it to NL9...

#2.0
Model: SM-G900F

Model name: GALAXY S5

Country: Poland

Version: Android 5.0

Changelist: 77433514

Build date: Thu, 18 Dec 2014 08:40:19 +0000

Product Code: XEO

PDA: G900FXXU1BNL9

CSC: G900FXEO1BNL1

MODEM: G900FXXU1BNL9

#3.0 Since Samsung do not release changelogs, it is difficult to say exactly what bugfixes are contained in this release. Hopefully, one will be to address the Wi-Fi issues I experienced on earlier releases whereby the passcode was not retained after re-booting. Already, Google are releasing Android 5.0.1 and even Android 5.0.2 which are core enhancements to battery life amongst other things, as I am currently finding. These later releases are a significant improvement on Android 5.0 and Samsung would do well to push these out as soon as they can, in preference to 5.0, IMHO.

You can install Lollipop now! :D

#4.0 You do not have to wait for Lollipop to be released for your phone. Anyone with the worldwide, international model, SM-G900F, (#4.1 do not come crying to me if you try and flash this to one of the S5 minority variants), can download and flash the unbranded Lollipop firmware, above, to their phone, using the Odin3 PC suite. This is just one of the bonuses of the international model as there are around 300 firmwares to choose from, both carrier branded and un-branded. The firmware comes with an English language pack, amongst other, (European), ones. Be warned, that this will void your warranty unless you flash back to your original firmware, (#4.2 make a note of it by entering *#1234# into your dialpad before flashing), should you need a repair and you will no longer receive updates OTA or via Kies until you revert back.

Here is a video on how to do it...

How to Flash Stock Firmware for Galaxy S5 by Odin3

#5.0
The stock Samsung firmware, linked above, is a, "no wipe", release. However, I would strongly recommend doing a Factory Data Reset before flashing such a major platform update which, among other things, replaces Dalvik with ART. A change for the better in terms of speed and battery saving, IMHO. Whilst a huge number of apps in the Play Store have been updated for Lollipop... some have not! This is down to the app developers and not Google or Samsung.

#6.0 (This is for competent users only and you do so at your own risk :eek:)

By lose do you mean they will uninstall, just stop working or what? Will my phone be damaged/broken in anyway? Do i just re-root after flashing the new firmware?

You can just re-root after flashing the stock Samsung Android 5.0 firmware. Just make absolutely sure that whatever Xposed framework you intend flashing is compatible with Android 5.0 odexed firmware first.

For more details on rooting and any related questions, see the root section of the S5 forum...

It would appear that Vodafone are keen to release Android 5.0, Lollipop, on the International, SM-G900F, model. Vodafone do not indulge in heavy carrier branding and modifications, if at all, and have been known to issue unbranded handsets, thus making it very easy and cost effective to release new firmware quickly. These are releases for the following CSC codes...

VFR = Germany (Vodafone)

VFG = Slovenia (Si.mobil)

VFG = Austria (A1)

VFR = Italy (Vodafone)

VFG = Albania (Vodafone)

All of the above are on the latest, currently, NL9 release for Lollipop.

I have the unbranded version of the S5,it seems to take forever for the new firmware updates to become available. You would think that as the release doesn't have to undergo the changes that a branded update requires it would be released sooner. Phil

At least it proves that less branding, (hardly any on the Vodafone releases, if any at all), means a quicker release, so long as your carrier is on the ball. As for the unbranded UK firmware, CSC code OXA/BTU, Samsung may decide to release it on a later firmware build than NL9. ;)

EDIT: See post #23

I'm not making the switch as there is fare to much white going on, this would push the Display battery usage up.

Don't worry about the white background. The savings made by using ART instead of Dalvik, more than compensates for that. I am getting a much better battery life, about 15% - 20% more, than on KitKat.

I can't handle the bright glare of a white background... I choose dark themes for as many of my apps as will provide that to me.
I am really hoping that Verizon will give me the option to say "NO" once and not push it out regardless of what I want.

The last 4.4.4 "fix" release by Verizon, there were two of them, has made 4.4.4 very solid. I don't need any more than what I have now. The S5 simply works well, why mess it up?
