Android 4.2.2, Galaxy S DUOS 2, calendar won't sync

Dear all,

I have a Galaxy S DUOS 2 / Android 4.2.2 with latest available Android updates installed which worked fine for 3/4 of a year. Lack of memory and some small issues occurred so I've performed a system reset to factory defaults yesterday.

Things work fine again except for one major issue, calendar fails to sync!
(Settings, Accounts, Google)

- Deleted Google account and re-installed, no luck
- Warm and cold reboot of the phone, no luck

All other Google items (eg. contacts, documents, app-data, gmail, drive etc) do sync, except for...calendar.
It does show a static circular double arrow, nothing happening.

Anybody an idea?

Regards from The Netherlands.

Frank

PS,
Exchange server account does show in the calendar, just no Google calendars

Hi

I think you may need to install the Google Calendar app from the playstore. I cannot get any calendar app to sync with google accounts unless I have this app installed. I dont use it as my calendar but it seems to be needed.

Roger

Hello Roger,

Thanks for your reply and yes, I'm aware of this. Google calendar was installed immediately after factory reset.
(for myself I use acalendar)

I'm having a similar problem. I've synced multiple Google calendars for years without a glitch, until I got my S4. Upon initial set up all my calendars synced perfectly and still do, I then decided to make a new Gmail account. The new Gmail account only syncs the default calendar. Of course the easy work around is to use only the default calendar, which I've been doing or go back to the old Gmail add. Being a bit anal in this area I like my personal and business to be color coded.
I'm wondering maybe it's not a Samsung problem but a Google one.

Hi Joel 745,

Well I've found a solution that worked for me.... DE-INSTALL the Google Calendar app :p
After de-install the Google Calendar app I restarted the phone (stupid Windows habit) and voila... syncing was fine again! :D (mind remarks at PS)

Yes my calendar app (aCalendar ('love it)) warns me about possible sync errors but on the contrary, works like a charm.

Good luck,

Frank

PS,
I've only one Gmail account active on my phone but do use 11 different calendars from at least 3 different Gmail accounts.

Frank, after awhile some how I got my calendar to sync, but I had another problem. My bookmark folder would not sync with any of my newly created gmail accounts. After many days of effort I just went back to my original gmail acc (too long for my liking) and all is fine again. Not only do I have kit kat but jellybean on another and the results were identical, this is a google problem not a device problem.
