Help Need help - scratched Incredible screen

Last night I dropped my phone while getting out of the car and it hit the pavement and skidded a couple feet. There is a hairline scratch across the screen now. It's not a deep gouge so I'm hoping it can be buffed out somehow. Any advice? I'm really bummed about messing up my new Incredible

I don't know about the availability of parts yet for the DI, but if you are comfortable taking your phone apart and possibly voiding your warranty (I have heard mixed opinions on this), you could replace the digitizer. The digitzer is the "top" of the screen and basically what you touch. Your screen is fine, it is this top layer, the digitzer, that is scratched. Maybe that helps....

I agree with putting a screen protector over it, it helps hide it and prevents future scratches. Although I can't recommend Zagg over other options, but they are readily available, but so are stock Verizon screen protectors.

after you end up replacing your screen, the only help I or anyone can probably give is to advise you to get a dang screen protector, such as the Zagg shield.

the subtle "orange peel" that everyone talks about is seen when you hold the phone at an angle and look at the light reflecting across the surface. Why this bothers people is beyond me, as it has NO affect when the phone is on and you are viewing the screen. Get a Zagg, install it properly, and after a week you will not even notice it being there. There's a reason they can charge $20 for them: they are indeed worth it

I bought it at Best Buy, less than a week ago yeah - what do you recommend my approach be? I thought about making up some bogus technical issue and hoping they'd swap and not notice the scratch but.....ehhh I doubt that would work.

Thanks for your other help everyone.....I was hoping there was some kind of product or polish out there - I've been reading forum posts all day but most people are talking about how to prevent a scratch, not fix one.

I practically have to distort my eyes to even see the orange peel. It's dramatically better than it was a couple years ago. It's definitely less noticeable than a scratch. In fact, the only gripe I have with ZAGG anymore is sometimes you get a protector that has a slight imperfection. You don't really notice this imperfection unless you have something like an all white background, and then you might see a small line that has a rainbow effect...i'm guessing something is causing a slight prism effect. My Incredible shield didn't have this imperfection, but my last 2 protectors for the Eris did. Honestly, it's not enough for me to bother, but I'm sure ZAGG would send a replacement if you called them out on it.

I also feel that it's even less tacky than before so my finger slides over it better.

I put them on all my equipment now. After my RAZR flew off the roof of my truck going at least 40mph and surviving the impact thx to the ZAGG, it would be hard for me to not like them.

They're horrible. The amount of orange peel is unacceptable to me and there are many other, better options available. If Zagg was the only kid on the block, then I might get one. But there are so many better out there. Phantom Skinz, Wrapsol and Ghost Armor just to name a few of many.

I put mine on 2 days ago. If this is "orange" peel then it's just fine. I honestly have to turn my phone sideways in direct sunlight to a 46 1/4 degree angle to notice ANYTHING. These people that complain about the orange peel need to put their magnifying glass down. It's not a 73" high def TV... it's a phone

Some screen protectors that apply with a liquid under them will hide scratches so you can't see them. Try that.

i can vouch for clarivue screen protectors...i dropped my phone face down on a blacktop parking lot when getting out of the car (it was sitting on my lap acting as a gps). protector was gouged so badly i was worried that it had scratched through...

took the protector off when i got home, not a single scratch on the screen. replaced it, good as new...

I completely agree with this! There is NO perfect screen protector, none. Every single one of them has some pro's and con's. So you just have to decide which pro's and which con's are most important to you.

I have had the Zagg on my Dare for 2 years. That thing is damn perfect. If I put my phone under a lamp, turn the screen off and angle it JUST right, I can see a very faint orange peel effect. That's it. 99.99% of the time you won't even know its there.

My fiance uses one as do several of my friends (on everything from Dare's to iPhone's to Blackberries). None of us have problems with it. And it's damn near impossible to scratch them. You just have to relax and take your time to make sure it's installed correctly. I think that's where most people end up with a problem, they rush it (or just don't want to deal with doing it properly) and then complain it's crap when really they just installed it incorrectly.

I had a Zagg on my Omnia... It has a tacky rubbery feel. Flame all you want... It was installed correctly and it was promptly removed after about a week. Its not the smoothest or best protecter for an all touch screen phone IMHO...

I'd say screw the screen protector but a case is a must! I' not against the screen protectors though! just not for me, with how often I get refurbs with these HTC phones, a new one will be on it's way before a scratch comes...knock on wood...
