I am still lagging ... and it seems like it is getting worse. I have restored my phone back to original and reloaded apps on it. it takes about 5 seconds to bring up ANY application - even to dial someone. This is what I have downloaded:

antivirus
any cut
app brain market
app monster
astro
atrackdog
bank of america
barcode scanner
c:geo
dolphin browser
facebook
handcent
jewellust
market
mixzing
my backup pro
pic say
quick settings
solitaire
the weather channel
wave secure
weather
wixel lite
word up
yelp

Is this too much? Should I get rid of anything that is causing such horrible lagging?

Please help. Thanks!

JB in AZ got it... +1

OR... if and when you do install the apps, do them only one or two at a time, run the phone through it's paces and the app's and see if there is any issue.

It's always a good idea to do stuff in baby steps so any culprit or badly written app can be identified.

:) Hope you find the problem.

Happy Trails

and I have about 500 songs ... do I need to cut the amount?

I wouldn't think anything saved to SD would create lag (music, photos), however anything saved to internal memory (long text threads, lots of apps, voicemails, browser/application cache) will create lag. Check your memory usage under settings and don't let internal memory get too low.
