PTT is used heavily in delivery, construction, emergency service, security, and other industries. When the BB curve finally came out for PTT on Nextel many jumped for joy. This is good news for those who just cant live without PTT. There is an inherent problem in the iDen network for these phones though. Data is just too slow. Yeah-- it will be fin for email, messaging, twitter, etc- but browsing, streaming media, etc are just not possible without wifi on the iDen (NEXTEL) network. Sprint had a couple of phones for a while that were hybrid and used iDen for PTT and CDMA for calling- too bad they didnt do that with this phone, although I am sure it would be a battery nightmare.

When I had Nextel the data was SOOOOO slow. And the texting on those phones was so ridiculously clunky and slow. Honestly the Nextel side of things is a 1 trick pony. PTT/Voice and that's it. I wouldn't even dream of doing e-mail on their network. As a result of the terrible texting amongst other things we ended up leaving Nextel. Although I loved the PTT, Nextel is just too PTT focused to be realistic for the average user.

I loved my ptt.... when it was "new". But they put zero dollars into new technology to bring the nextel brand into 2010... its the same as it was back in 1995 or so. For me i want a new flashy phone that works well where i am and where i travel. Nextel is just not keeping up.So now i have an HTC Sprint Hero, and really like it... cant wait for the EVO 4G.

Had Nextel not been purchased by Sprint their network would have been alot better. They started to upgrade their network for faster speeds before Sprint bought them. It was called WiDEN and was their version of 3G. When Sprint purchased Nextel they did it for their business customers thinking that they would just want to migrate over to Sprint since they covered a bigger footprint than Nextel did. That wasnt the case. People that used and loved Nextel didnt want to leave it. So instead of expanding the WiDEN network Sprint used it to expand the normal iDEN network and hasnt messed with WiDEN since leaving the iDEN network basically unchanged for over a decade. When customers got tired of the slow Nextel speeds and the outdated technology they started to move to other carriers instead of Sprint. Both Sprint and Nextel would have been in a lot better position today had the merger never taken place.

Hey,

I'm kinda new to the entire Android OS. Was using Windows mobile for a while and it was okay in the past, but the entire smartphone/cell phone scene has changed. I watched the latest I/O keynotes and I am blown away. However, I want to start with a simple device, that's not overly expensive and all. the i1 seems to be a good pick, especially since it's coming to boost mobile on June 20th (Boost Mobile confirm release date for crazy-tough Motorola i1: June 20th).
However, I was wondering if anybody could tell me if the i7 would work with an update in the OS to Froyo replacing 1.5. I am concerned about it since it boosts "only" 500mhz and an average ram. Those of you who are a little more tech savvy, do you see froyo running on a i1?
