Battery charges really quickly?

Hi,

I recently bought a Moto G3. I want to know, is it normal for my battery to charge very quickly? So it was 39%, and I've been charging it for about 5-10 minuets and its 56%. Is this normal? I'd say the battery life is pretty good once I've optimised it (brightness at medium and 4G turned off when not in use). Yesterday, my phone was at 71%, and after a day of making a note, texting, playing games, and searching I was at 54%, with the phone being in sleep all day. I am using the charging cable and an Apple 5W charger (phone did not come with one)

Thank you for your help.

Does the charger you are using support any type of fast or quick charging? (I'm not clear on Apple products) I think this phone ships with the turbo charger that supposedly can put an 80% charge on your phone in 15 minutes, so a similar charger should be able to charge pretty quickly.

Its just a standard Apple charger. Apple products do tend to charge faster as they have smaller batteries. I think you might be getting confused with Turbo Charge, its definitely not avaliable on the Moto G! Just thought it was a bit weird. There seems to be a problem with charging electronics in my house. Some charge really quickly and the battery drains really quickly, some charge very slowly and the battery lasts a long time. I have never done a "full charge", the lowest the battery has been is 34%. Should I do a full charge?

The Moto G does not support Quick Charge or Turbo Charge, so whether your charger does or not is not relevant.

If you have never done a full charge cycle, from 100% to 15% (or lower) than back to 100% without interrupting the process, then you should do it.

Unless you are noticing significant reduction of battery life, I would bet this only a reporting issue (how you see it), not an indication of a real problem.

Yeah, I do seem OCD about battery life and charging. It's always charged that quickly and battery life has always been the same. To me it seems to drain quickly sometimes, but this is most likely because of the fact I am coming from a Lumia 635 which had a smaller much lower resolution screen, less power, and I was not using 4G and barely using the phone, so I would often get through a few days.

Here is my customisation to the phone. I have turned 4g off when connected to wifi. Brightness is also just below medium. I had Battery Doctor, but uninstalled it as it was actually draining my battery life!

Does this battery life seem good.

Start the day at 100%.

Surf the web a bit. Make notes. Check emails. Reply to a text. Answer a call. Play Color Switch. Check the news. Get home. Check the news. Play Asphalt 8. My battery is at usually between 74% and 63%. Does this seem good? I'm not a huge user of my phone, use my iPad more lol .

I read that turning of 4G saves battery.what do you think of battery life then? Is it okay?

Thisd might happen if you've got a srong 4G signal and a weak wifi signal. If the wifi data becomes unavailable then the phone will switch to 4G and then back again. In an area where wifi is weak, the constant netwrok switching will increase the drain. If you're in areas where Wifi signals are always strong, then it won't make a difference.

Your battery life for a smartphone seems about average or a little above average.

The Moto G does not support Quick Charge or Turbo Charge

Okay. I don't have one, but I'll take your word for it. The Motorola website says the turbo charger is compatible with the G (3rd gen) but i suppose it could be marketing-speak ... "compatible" doesn't necessarily mean it supports it.

You don't need to turn 4g off when you turn wifi on. Your device turns it off automatically.
I meant mobile data.

Oh that's interesting about it being average. Like I said I probably use it for about 2 hours a day, but obviously standby on Android is not its strongest point. Just wish I was less OCD about battery.

Battery life is one of things that is hard to compare... I get anywhere from 3 to 9 hours of screen on time per day (~18 hours) depending on what I am doing, strength of connections, movement, etc, with about 4 hours being the average. If you go by the "4 hours" average I typically have 40% battery remaining after 18 hours. Remember that these are averages and can vary widely depending on numerous factors. The battery life of the Moto G 2015 is excellent compared to most phones I have used.

Disabling 4G (assuming you mean LTE) has much less effect on battery life, depending on signal strength, than in previous handsets with older chipsets. Assuming similar good signal strength on both LTE and HSPA+ networks, LTE will in most cases use less battery in Snapdragon 410 based devices.

Yeah, I'm not on LTE, don't get a huge amount of coverage here in the UK. I've just personally found turning of Mobile Data an effective way of saving battery on my phone. The good news, is that I've never had less than 30%. I don't charge my phone overnight either. I know phones stop charging once they reach 100%, but then you unplug them and they've drained 20%.
