No Android 2.0 for Hero?

I really don't think it's worth the effort to speculate about what devices will and won't get updated when. We really have no idea or official word from Sprint or HTC. It's really just blind speculation.

Do we all hope it gets updated? Of course.

Android, like the Pre and the iPhone, is made to be updated. I seriously doubt they'd release a phone with already old 1.5 and never update it...

...BUT... This is Sprint's first Android phone, so we don't know their strategy with it. Hopefully Verizon's Droid lineup, in shining 2.0, will spur Sprint to remain competitive with their 2 new Android handsets.

Have you seen whats in 2.0?? Alot of what is in 2.0 is already in Sprint's Hero. Best I cna tell, about 95% of the features offered by 2.0 were incorporated into Sprints Hero.

This is what I dont get about this platform. It is open sourced and really easy to develop for. However, I am noticing that many different phones have many different versions - cupcake, donut and soon to be eclair. The app store has apps that work on donut but dodnt on cupcake, work on cupcake but not as well on donut.

Sprint has a version of 1.5, that is vastly superior to the normal version of 1.5, with many of the features that are offered in 2.0 that some people do not have yet.

Why arent all the phones supporting the same platform and getting the updates at the same time? That way the app store would be much more fluid when it comes to downloading. I like to read the comments before downloading and it seems many of the apps have different specs and work better on different platforms. VERY confusing...

Yes, I've seen 2.0, and frankly, I would like to thank HTC for incorporating a lot of 2.0 into the Hero, but.... it really doesn't work well in some areas. The Facebook integration is the most confusing thing I've ever seen, and Twitter? I have Twitdroid set to update every 2 hours but my phone Settings have Twitter updating every 24. Um? I'd still rather have official Android support for a lot of Sense UI things...

As for why they are not all updated at once? It's open source and not controlled the same way the iPhone or Pre's software is. They release new code, and it's up to the phone manufacturers or carriers to get the update out.

First off, compared to at least ONE phone (the moto droid) the Hero isn't lesser specced, they both have 550Mhz CPUs. so if the droid can run it why not the hero. Second, HTC has said there will be an update, they just wont say when or which version. But considering 1.6 is now obsolete, and they aren't talking about an update till the new year...do the math.

Then you have the issue of 2.0, by every account thus far, running MUCH faster on almost identical hardware and the "not beefy enough to run it" speculation seems pretty flat.

As for why bothering if HTC added most of 2.0s features in, well, couple reasons. They may have added the functionality, but not the speed. So for that reason alone I'd like to see it. Second if they can update 1.5 to be almost as good as 2.0...wonder what they could make out of 2.0? All the integration stuff they added (that one person here complained about how confusing it can be) is all API based in 2.0, meaning they could, by all accounts, do what they already did with 1.5 1/2 and do it BETTER, or expand upon it.

Everyone just needs to take a deep breath and remember that HTC has a LONG history of providing significant upgrades to WinMo phones WELL after they were released, and that's an OS they have to pay for!

Breath deep and relax kids. Get to know your phone and have fun, and before you know it we'll all have a 2.0 build to slap on our phones.

Most of the key features I see on 2.0 are multiple account support and integrated inbox. I am also looking forward to seeing the improved keyboard layout (although I like the HTC version).

Does the Sprint Hero have any of this?

It has been announced that early next year, Sprint will be releasing 2.1 for Hero.
