SMS Notifications not always working?

G Stylo with LS770ZV9 Marshmallow update. Updated PRL already.

For some reason, when I receive a text message, it does not always notify me. Not only no sound, but not in my tray either. The message is there, but I don't know about it until I open my messaging app and see it in the inbox. Sometimes I get a notification, other times I don't. Seems to screw up most often (but not exclusively) when I have an app open which uses sound, such as iheartradio, YoutTube, or Netflix.

I am using the default messaging app and the ice cubes pre-installed notification sound. Notifications for all other apps seem just fine.

I can't seem to duplicate it on command, its just random.

Hi.

Make sure there isn't any automatic task killers killing the Messaging app (though, it should already be excluded).

Secondly, you should also check to make sure notifications aren't blocked for Messaging. Do this in Settings > Apps > Messaging > Notifications, making sure that it isn't switched to block notifications.

If you are still having a problem, unless someone has better solutions, I'd suggest downloading another SMS app to use as the default messaging service.

Thanks for the reply. Notifications are not blocked for messaging. I have peek on and have even tried setting priority on for that app.

I don't have any 3rd party task killers installed. Do you happen to know if there are any pre-installed ones that might be the issue?

I really don't want to have to use another app. Matter of principle. I paid $200 for the phone, and it needs to work. If it comes to it i will factory reset and see if that works but i doubt it.

Again, thanks for your time!

It's not very typical for any manufacturer to pre-install any task-killers, but Android may kill tasks sometimes for the sake of RAM and battery power (Doze, for example). However, Messaging shouldn't and wouldn't be included in the list of apps that Android will kill on its own, due to its being an important app.

Anyways, I have one more potential solution. In the settings in the Messaging app itself, you will find the notification settings. Should be the very first thing you see. You can check to see if that box is unchecked.

If this doesn't work, my next guess would be to factory reset, because this doesn't happen to everyone.

I've had the same issue since first purchasing this phone a year ago. I've tried ALL of the efforts mentioned multiple times to no avail. I've replaced the phone 5 times and had the issue with each one. I think it's an odd issue related to this particular phone.

Good feachers, decent phone, just needs a bit more refinement than what was done with the second version. Including better specs.

I was having this problem. Nothing worked. All apps looked fine!!! Finally, I read where someone said they had installed CM Security and when they removed it, their got text notifications again. I knew I had installed that, too, so I uninstalled it, restarted the phone, and now I get my beloved text notifications again! YAHOO!!

I also had similar issue.  I started using Google messages instead of the stock messaging app.  No issues since.  If you choose this route, note that Alert settings (Amber alert, etc) are within stock app.  Outside of that I've had no issues since switching.
