Help Some stranger keeps adding me to multiple group chats? I suspect danger

(Answered)

Earlier tonight, some number texted me an attachment, but my mobile data was disabled. I enabled and the message vanished. I responded to the conversation by asking "Who is this?"
they replied "Roger." I responded with "Wrong number" and blocked the number and deleted the conversation.

A few minutes later I was added to 2 group chats, each with 6-10 people who were all chatting about some random topic. I deleted the conversations. (I could not find an option to block all numbers or mute notifications etc.)

After this I was added to another group chat, and they keep adding me after I delete the conversations.
I deleted the rest, put my phone on airplane mode, and turned off my phone.

I'm not sure how to stop this and I'm not sure if my device has been hacked or something. Please help.

Update: There are 3 group chats now, with 48 new messages since yesterday night.I have not opened any.
Update 2: After a few days there are now 57 messages total. I have yet to open them, but the most recent are: someone saying "Yes!!!" , someone typing their address, and random chatter.

P.S. Would it be safe to open the group chats? (Not respond of click links or anything)

FINAL UPDATE: I found out after texting thr chat to leave me alone that it was a chat of people I knew irl but didn't know the numbers of. They added a bunch of people from a recent event.
I would still like to know if it is safe to open group chats though.

FWIW, you should never respond to a random text as that confirms they got an active real number. I'm not sure what the game is, but it sounds like a scam of some kind.

You may also want to contact your carrier if you are postpaid to make sure that you didn't inadvertantly authorize someone to add something to your bill (cramming).

If it seems like a regular group conversation then it sounds like you got someone's old number and the group "leader" that started the group texts hasn't changed the number/person.

My sister in law did this once by accident. She started a group text but had my other brother's old number. One time the guy that had the old number of my brother sent a pissed off text to stop texting him and remove from the group. She didn't clear out her contact list of the bad and old numbers.

I hope it's not a scam but it sucks if "Roger" is too dumb to realize he's got a wrong number in the group.

It is a possibility, but why would "Roger" add me to 3 separate active group chats within an hour?

Yeah, it's strange. Also, I didn't see your update in my original post.

Again, if they keep adding you, they may not realize they have an old number in their groups. Not saying this is the answer but it happens.

Were their similar numbers in each group?

What were the conversations about? Did they seem really odd? Are they asking for anything strange (like personal info) from the group?

If you can hope that this is not a scam as you do not remember giving your number to somebody then my answer to that would be that Roger and other guys belong to a cooperate. When you work in a company they usually put you in more than one groups for coordination.

I can't see what's in the groups without opening them and I don't know if it is safe for me to open them? (also can't see all of who is in)
