Video codec error

So I like to make videos on my laptop then post them to Instagram, but the process of doing this with my new phone (S7 Edge) is not working as nicely as my old phone (Moto X 2nd gen).

What I used to do was: email the video to myself on the laptop, download the video through the email on my phone, then it would appear in my phone's gallery and could go right to Instagram from there.

Now the problem is when I download the video from email on my new phone, I get only the audio and a black screen. Further research determined this was a "codec" error and to solve this I downloaded VLC media player which works fine for viewing the video, audio and picture, on my phone. However, this does not allow me to post it to Instagram because it is not in my phone's gallery.

I know this may seem a little jumbled or unclear, but I have tried everything in my power and need some help to try to solve this issue.

Thanks,
Dan

alright I'm trying to follow you so you take a video on your Samsung and the then you send it through email. Then you get on you laptop and download the file to your laptop and then try to upload to your Instagram from your laptop

Sounds very much like an unsupported codec problem. Are you using Windows Media for the video, e.g. Windows Movie Maker. Which AFAIK Samsung devices don't support, because of Microsoft Windows Media codec licensing. If you are using WM, try using MP4 instead.

1. Edit video on laptop
2. Transfer to phone because Instagram only allows mobile upload

Problem lies within downloading to phone

OK, what software are you actually using to render the videos? Because it does sound like there's something about them that the Samsung can't deal with. An S7 Edge should be able to play MP4 videos natively and via its gallery.

Sony movie studio (I think it's similar to Sony vegas)
