Missing app icons on Home screen.

Does anyone have a problem with random app icons disappearing from their Home screen?
I have started having this problem with increasing frequency where after I turn the phone on if I check all my folders two or more app icons will be missing.

It's random on which and how many icon(s) and when it happens but it seems to be getting more frequent.

Anyone know what could be causing the problem?

I am using a LG V20 H910 Unlocked on Cricket.

Thanks for any help provided.

There may be a couple of reasons for this. If the apps have updated, sometimes the developer changes the app icon which would break the old one. Another could be if you've moved your apps to sd which I always found to be flaky to begin with. If your phone boots fast enough to the home screen before the sd is mounted, it would absolutely break the shortcut.

Give me a minute and I'll think of a few more.

Is it always the same apps? Do you use a custom launcher? Do you know the airspeed of a coconut laden swallow? ;)

You were right.
I checked today when I turned the phone on and checked for missing icons and all the ones that were missing were for apps that I had moved to the SD card.

Thanks for the suggestion.
😀

P.S. Would you happen to know how to get the phone into Recovery Mode?
I've tried all of the button methods I can find online and the only one I've got any results from is where you press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons until the LG logo appears and then release the Power button and then repress and hold the Power button until something happens.

All I've been able to get after that is a white screen with the option to wipe all User Data or not.
Or in other words do a Factory Reset.
I haven't been able to get to the Recovery screen so far.

Thanks for the suggestion.
But it didn't work.
I've tried every variation of the Power button and Volume Down button I can think of and everything but one the phone just boots up as normal and the one as I said just goes to a white screen with the choice to Factory Reset the phone or not.

So either there is some method I haven't been able to find or my phone has no Recovery Mode.

The phone I bought on eBay as a new AT&T factory unlocked phone.
But I have doubts about it since it constantly has battery overheating problems and the headphone jack is busted or wore out.
I had it flashed to Cricket so maybe that did something though every other phone I've had on Cricket has been able to boot into Recovery Mode.

I'm just stumped.

The phone I bought on eBay as a new AT&T factory unlocked phone.

If it was new and AT&T branded, it wasn't unlocked, at least not carrier unlocked. I suspect you got less than what you paid for. It's most likely been rooted and modified improperly. It's not surprising since I can't seem to find an official KDZ file needed to flash the AT&T variant back to stock. Either this is a custom ROM or firmware for the wrong model (which might explain your problems).

How long have you had this phone? I'd seriously try and return it to the seller.

@Quinty453 just so you know, I deleted your last two posts. It's not a good idea to post your real IMEI or s/n on a public forum.

I did take a look at them, and while they do look like a normal phone, those numbers could easily be spoofed. I did check that IMEI on Swappa to see if it was clean and it seems to be okay.

I also looked up the Software version and build numbers and they also appear correct for the April security patch.

I think the battery overheating is a problem and you should probably address that with the seller if possible. I do think it would be advisable to reinstall the firmware, but from everything I've found, it's got to be done by AT&T.

Although the thread took a turn in a different direction ... going back to the original question - and the answer ... I want to thank Quinty for asking and Lunatic for answering.
I have this problem too, yet I just figured it was the way may have inadvertently slid a finger across the screen or some other silly action-related thing I did. Since I have all my apps on my SD Card, now I know why I was missing apps on multiple screens, even screens I hardly scroll over to.

Although I don't find this too much of a problem/annoyance, I think I'm going to try the App Drawer for a while and see if it happens there too.

Thanks again.
