The latest update, 9.0.2, for the T-Mobile (USA) minority carrier variant has just started rolling out at last in the USA, OTA, (Over The Air).

Changelog:

  • Enables support for additional domestic roaming partners
That's it!

This is exactly the same firmware as the previous release back in early December 2018 and roughly equates to the global OxygenOS 9.0.5 release of the 6th November 2018, see, here. Even down to the same old November Android Security patch and the same camera version v2.9.43. The only change is, as T-Mobile (USA) state... "Enables support for additional domestic roaming partners"

This is the 3rd update for this model in 72 days.

(N.B. This update is only for the T-Mobile (USA) minority carrier variant and NOT the global model)

Did you go to Device Settings > System Updates > Software Updates?

Sometimes it takes a few days to get it.

I found one report about the update, not sure if the author has the phone or is just writing a general article about it:

Thanks kate!

I am in the sunny Cotswolds, England, and do not have the T-Mobile (USA) carrier variant of the OnePlus 6T.

The article that you have linked me to, appears to indicate a roll out but I have yet to find anyone posting on all the major forums, including OnePlus, that they have actually received it.

Normally, as I am sure you know, when a new firmware drops, there's a feeding frenzy.

Heads up!

Better late than never... the latest T-Mobile (USA) update, 9.0.2, has started to roll out.

Judging from other forums, there are no changes except for...

"Enables support for additional domestic roaming partners"... that's it!

Even I felt sure in my post, here, that the new release would be based on at least the global model's 9.0.6 or 9.0.7 firmware and that the new camera, if not v3.0.13, would be either v2.10.11 or v2.10.13.

WARNING!

Users are reporting that this update has broken their Google Play certification. This has caused a whole host of issues with apps that require the certification such as, Google Pay for instance.

At present, neither T-Mobile (USA) or OnePlus have a fix for this. It would seem that apart from the roaming fix there is something else in the update that makes Google Play think that your devices are now rooted. Unfortunately, unlike the non carrier branded global model, there is no way to delay or refuse this update on the T-Mobile variant. Something that would have been useful in this case.

Nice to see that the T-Mobile (USA) certification process is working well!

The good news is that there should be another update in the very near future to fix the Google Pay issue and the Android Security patch might be updated from November 2018, at the same time. Fingers crossed.

It looks as though the issue was at the T-Mobile or Google end as the issue has been fixed without an update according to this article in TmoNews...

T-Mobile OnePlus 6T update breaking Play Protect certification for some

“The issue with Google Pay and Google Play Protect on OnePlus has been resolved. Customers may need to re-verify their payment information – if so, they will see an automatic prompt in Google Pay. For further assistance, contact our support team here.”
