I do like free speech but really... the VAST VAST VAST majority of people will use it for ONE reason... to illegally download copyrighted content from other people. I wonder how many people who steal over the internet would steal from a store. Anything illegal... is well... unlawful in the US.

As far as I can see this has absolutely nothing to do with free speech, that's just a daft argument people put forward to side step the issue of theft. Please explain how it is an attack on free speech to try and prevent massive scale theft?
I'm pretty sure that many copyright holders aren't billion dollar a year corporations though, so what about their rights?
There's a difference between being given something for free, and not paying for something though.
Think about what you do for a living; if your half your customers decided that they no longer wished to pay, and simply stole from you, would you carry on, but charge you remaining paying customers more, or just give up and cease supply to all your customers? Or would you prevent those non-paying customers from stealing from you? Which is most fair to all?
Wait... what do you mean by free speech? I thought you meant free speech as in able to speak your mind on this issue on the internet. I don't understand how free speech deals with stealing.
