Encrypted SD Card

I previously had a Samsung S9+ and was using a SD card for storage of all my photos and also had 'encrypted' the SD storage card. Well, my phone broke, and now I have a new Samsung S9+ but am unable to access my photos on the SD card as they were encrypted on a different phone. Is there any way to remedy this. PLEASE!!

When you encrypted that microSD card, this created an encryption key that linked the card to that phone, and only to that phone. So you won't be able to access the contents of the card at this point. It doesn't matter if you're try to mount it using a different phone or a computer regardless of what operating system it's running, because the encryption key was stored in your previous phone's internal storage, the card's content won't be readable.
Well, as is. You can use the card again but you need to reformat it.

If that's the only place you were saving your photos to, and you don't have any other backup solution set up. They are essentially lost. Do you have any automated online storage backup set up? Google Photos? Dropbox? MS OneDrive? Facebook? Or a recent, manual backup to something like Samsung's Smart Switch?

Thanks for the response. Yes, unfortunately all those images are lost, but I was able to find most of them in Google photos. Phew!!

HOPE THIS HELPS SAW ON ANOTHER POST:

Should anyone else come across this thread in the future,

1. I mounted the encrypted SD card on my laptop
2. Transferred everything off the card to a new folder on my laptop
3. Formated the SD Card in ex-fat
4. Put it back in my phone
5. Encrypted the empty card
6. Pulled it and mounted it to my laptop again
7. Transferred the encrypted files back to the SD card
8. Pulled it and put it back in my phone
9. Decrypted the card

Voila, I can see all my photos again. Perhaps encrypting the card is the wrong way to go and I should just be backing up photos daily, but I am certainly happy to hear anyone's full OPSEC plan for if their phone is lost or stolen.

Was all of that done with the same phone? I cannot imagine how this could work if the original encryption and the subsequent re-encryption were performed in different phones, which is the problem the OP faced here.

This is apparently a deceptive list of instructions, DO NOT attempt this. At best it will just fail, at worst you will end up deleting your photos. File transfers between different devices and encrypting the storage media don't work this way. Again, don't try this.
