Help Auto Restart Won't work after latest update.

After the latest software update in September-October, The Auto Restart feature stopped working on both my wife's phone and mine. I have cleared the cache in the boot rom on both phones, and it still don't work. Aside from wiping the phones and re-installing. We have AT&T (Note 10 Plus)

I have also turned off the Auto Restart. Turned off phone and cleared cache. Turned back on Auto Restart and turned off phone cleared cache again.

One other note: it seems like the phones try to restart, but something is preventing it from doing so. The screen turns on at the time it's usually turns off.. Ex: set to restart at 4:00am. Tried at 4:40am. This was the usual time it did it before update.

I also tried this in Safe mode with no luck. still don't work. Took me 2 hours to get my home launcher screen to work again after that. It defaulted back to original Home Launcher. I use Nova Launcher it wouldn't even open that. But finally got that fixed.
I do not have any phone cleaners or RAM Booster apps installed. I have since, factory reset my phone and tried the auto restart last night. Tried the Auto Restart feature and it still didn't work. It looked like it did, I had to put in my PIN when I woke up and it even said, "Enter Password after a restart" HOWEVER, If I go and look at the "up time" in settings, it showed 14 hours and 31 minutes. Also, it didn't do the "Restarting" across the screen that I usually get when I restart. I don't really mind it not working for me, as I have to turn my phone off at work on a daily basis. My wife is the one that uses this feature (Probably the only one too!).It still did not work!

Possible bug?

I've attached the update info.

I already did that...I stated that in my last paragraph....

You did, sorry, I missed that.
After you did it, did you let the phone re-download apps or did you use smartswitch, or did you immediately try the auto restart after initial setup?

If you downloaded apps, maybe try another reset and not download apps, just to see if the auto restart works.

Maybe contact AT&T, see if they have a suggestion.

No worries. Thanks for trying to help me anyway. I did back up all my apps and re-installed them using smart switch. After testing it, only to have it do she thing. However, I did not, add my settings at all. Was trying to see if it was something I had in settings. Weird thing is, it's doing same thing on my wife's (same exact as mine-AT&T Note 10+) phone. So if it was an app, it's gotta be a common one that we both use, but I tried it on a fresh install. Also, I have a Samsung Tab 3, that restarts over night, perfectly. It's behind in the OS version (and maybe a few other updates).

Yeah. Mine's not working either.

Thanks for getting back!

I contacted Samsung, she said , if it's a bug , they'll put out a patch/update (fix). But she didn't write anything down. I told her to document it , otherwise , if they don't know about it, they won't fix it . Not sure what she did or didn't do .. Hopefully it'll get fixed!

It will have ben documented but they are too big to give you a ticket number or anything you can track at the time.

It wasn't until this was raised that I was able to think back to Saturday morning behaviour and realise there was something wrong so thanks for the heads up and for the notifying to Samsung.

It's not a big inconvenience to me outside of the itch I get when something is not behaving as expected.

Ohh, I have that same exact itch!
Yeah, I hate to give my wife the credit , she noticed it . I didn't, only because I turn mine off about 6 times a day , because of work . But I I hear anything , I'll post back. But probably won't hear, like you said..

I'm about to look for, and raise an item about a notification I just received about a system configuration update. It scares me as it is only a day after an obvious physhing SMS but that seemed to have strange additional formatting.

A quick web search seems to indicate that these are safe Samsung updates outside of their munge on the full monthly Android update but I'm not clicking it until I'm sure. If I can do so before my pending Saturday restart and it contains a fix for it I'll let folks know.

That config update does seem to have resolved the issue and I am now getting my weekely scheduled reboots again.

Thanks for the update!

Unfortunately, we both still never got this update you got. Do you have AT&T? I'm wondering if I am fine it on the web or just have to wait for it to push to us. What update did you get? Can you share a screen shot?

It was the one I mentioned here: https://androidforums.com/threads/notification-configuration-update-is-it-genuine-samsung.1329951/

I am in the UK. It came in as a standard notification so I doubt it is something you can download as the configs will all be carrier specific.

That's what I thought. Thanks for your hemp and input! I guess we're the only 3 that use this feature .. Lol.. I'll have to wait for the update for me in the States. But at least I know, they know about it and are fixing it. I've even posted in the "Samsung Members" app on my phone, where I was able to upload a diagnostic file that I was able to take right after the restart failed , so they were able to see what happened.

Be safe !

So, it is looking like the config updaye I got allowed it to do the new, in process reset, that allowed the proper alarm tones to work and so on. I was annoyed at every tone being my ringtone untill I logged in to a rebooted phone before.
totally makes sense that personal data is ot loaded until login, rahter than at boot like it used to be so I understand why this change was needed from a full reboot to a syystems restart that would not trigger visual evidence that it had happened. In this instance though A notification would be very helpful to tell you it had happenenned, and with a different sub menu to other system notifications you may have ignores in the past

How did you find this out? That's exactly what they told me, but I couldn't find any info on it. AND I agree with you 100%! There should have been some other notification or something stressing this . Thanks for your help!
