here in LA there is no central place to make an appointment for a covid-19 vaccination, trying to get my mom an appointment to get vaccinated has been like pulling teeth. there are quite a few places they tell you to go to make an appointment. and each one i went to it was full until March. but i luckily found this

Yes i got my first shot last month because i need it working in the Healthcare Industry.

so i just got back from getting my mom vaccinated.....she got the Phizer shot and now on to round two which will be in 21 days......so now i have to pull more teeth to get her reservation in time.

shot was pretty straight forward. it sucks that we had to drive so far out to get it. all of the surrounding areas have no openings for reservations. i wish it was a much easier process.

Nope, I'm still waiting. I was under the apparently incorrect impression that being 60+ AND severely immunocompromised, I'd be near the top. But, no. My nurse case manager called last week to check on me, and I asked him if he could arrange an in-home vaccination. He didn't know offhand how they were handling that, so he's supposed to get back with me. That's the most ideal way for me to get it, so I hope it works out.

I can't go out, @Bearsyzf, so that's why I've asked my nurse case manager about getting vaccinated at home. When you replied saying your company was vaccinating 60+ people, I wondered if you meant at home.

they just posted on friday (but i only found out today), that they have stopped all 1st vaccine shots so that they can administer the 2nd shot. i just filled out a form. her minimum shot date is feb 23rd so she still has time to get an appointment. hopefully they will get back to us shortly.

My cousin got her second shot (Pfizer) on Friday, and had a pretty bad reaction--very fatigued, achy--but it passed quickly; she was fine by Saturday morning.

Still no idea when I can get mine.

This lines up pretty much with what I'm hearing for the vaccine. Dose one has injection soreness that is more like a tetanus shot than a flu shot, and if people are getting side effect they come with the second shot and last 12-24 hours.

This is really getting frustrating, not just for me, but for a lot of people. Every day on the local news, I hear one thing and then another! Like first I'll hear 'people 80 and up' can get the vaccine, then it's 75, then 60, then 70. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it!

And I don't understand at all this thing where they're only doing second doses now at the mega-vaccination centers. Huh? What about all the people who want, but haven't been able to get, the first shot?!

@ocnbrze, did you feel me wave to you today? I did, while passing through West Covina--on my way to get my shot! We went to Cal Poly Pomona. We checked the MyTurn.CA.gov site yesterday, and there they were! Openings for today.

My helper, a coworker of hers--who lives in WC--and I all got 10:30 appointments. We all assumed it was a drive-thru arrangement, as that's all we've seen or heard about. Nope. Thank goodness they had wheelchairs available; we hadn't thought of bringing mine, and there was a LOT of walking/standing.

Waiting to be checked in took about 10-15 minutes; check-in was a breeze; then we immediately went to separate nurses to get our shots. They went over everything with us, and stuck green and blue stickers on us at various points along the way. Afterward, for about 20 minutes, we had to be monitored to make sure we were okay, then we were free to leave. They took our blue and green stickers back!

We all expected "I got vaccinated" stickers but, no.

We got the Pfizer vaccine (which was my preference, but I would've taken whichever they'd had) and have our return appointments set up for three weeks from now. I'll wave to you next time, too!

Are you checking MyTurn regularly? That's what we did.

Something I wanted to mention about our shots at Cal Poly: there were entire families there. Like parents in their 40s with their children, a lot of families, and we were all wondering what was up with that. These weren't infants who had to be breast-fed, they were older kids like 10 or 12. We wondered why they came. Were they getting shots? Or they came along because it was so fun? Or what?

And another thing: as we were getting ready to leave the house, the local news was saying that numerous sites, including Dodger Stadium, were shutting down for several days due to a shortage of vaccine. Huh? There was an abundance where we went.

Yesterday, Dr Fauci said the latest research shows that once you're fully vaccinated you cannot transmit the virus. That's really good news, and contradicts the earliest reports.

Tell them you're immunocompromised, like me. No, don't. Don't lie. You'll get it soon enough. I'm glad to hear there's a site that's within an easy walk from your house. That's nice!
