How to dismiss calendar notifications with a touch, not a swipe?

By which I mean the full screen calendar notifications/reminders. I have, in the past, stumbled across how to dismiss them by touching the X instead of swiping across, but after a recent factory reset on my tablet I'm blowed if I can remember how to change it to touch!

Which app are you using to produce full screen notifications? Most calendar apps don't have that option, so the answer may be specific to the app.
It's the standard calendar app, It's just called 'calendar'. I assumed it was the google calendar that comes with the phone.

I should have clarified, the reminder comes up as a full screen with a green tinge only when the screen was not on. It has the reminder name, the 'details' and 'snooze' button and the dismiss button 'red x in a white circle' at the bottom. I want to be able to just press the x, not swipe it, to acknowledge.

The trouble is that many manufacturers install their own calendar apps, and they are almost all called "Calendar". So I never make assumptions about what calendar app someone is using unless I at least know what device they have.

I did just enable notifications in the Google calendar app on my phone (I leave them off as I have other calendar apps that suit me better) and created a test event, but it did not produce the type of reminder you describe for me. This may however depend on the device, android version or other settings (e.g. I have a Pixel 2 running Android 11 with always on display disabled). But the Google app, in common with most Google apps, is very limited in what options it provides and I couldn't spot anything in its settings myself that looked relevant to this.

Thanks so much for your efforts Sir.
