This is not a bug, but I just noticed this morning that after the update and a factory reset that the brightness setting was set to full on rather than what I usually use - automatic brightness. I'll have to see if I notice any better battery life; so far, it's been on par with what I had before with 1.5.

Quick update: for reasons that I cannot fathom (although perhaps it was the simple reboot that I did recently another reason entirely), the issue of "Calendar app force close every time when you click on a date in the month view" has apparently fixed itself. The calendar now works just fine. May all issues aired on this forum (especially the silent call issue, which I don't have but which sounds really annoying) resolve themselves as easily. Thanks!

haven't seen these posted elsewhere - apologies if they're duplicates:

Calculator input doesn't automatically clear after pressing "=": Press 9+9=. Screen will say 18. Press 9 again. This should clear the display so all you see is 9. On the stock calculator app, the 18 doesn't clear so the screen says 189. This is clearly a bug.

Browser issues: Aside from bookmark order not saving, the bookmark thumbnails are extremely blurry. Also, why does the button say "Navigate" instead of "Bookmarks"?

Battery life: Much shorter than before, probably due to programs starting themselves all the time. Stocks and Settings in particular always seem to be active.

Haven't done factory reset and don't plan on it... everything else is working well.

Also don't know if this has been posted elsewhere but it seems like the image quality has improved quite a bit - the photos I use for my wallpaper and lock screen are noticeably better than before.

Both of our Eris's have experienced the Full Brightness problem, normally set to manual and about 25%. Also the silent call bug, the 50% bug (I think this eats up battery) and the partial reboots to the HTC logo. Sounds like a broken record (for those old enough to know what a record is). These we trouble free phones before the upgrade. I did a factory reset BEFORE upgrading to OTA 2.1. The Silent Call bug is the worst since it keeps you from using the phone as a phone! My battery life seems good, the wifes is slightly less.

Is anyone else having trouble turning off mail notifications? Under Mail Settings --> Notification Settings I have everything turned off, yet I get the stinking blinking green LED and audio chimes when I receive mail. This never happened in 1.5 (an implementation of push notifications in 2.1?)

This is greatly annoying since:

A. I am forced to check my mail to get the blinking to stop!
B. If I receive email at night my phone goes off - it's the only time I have the ringer turned on (yunno, so I'll notice if someone calls/texts).

Interesting you said that, because I've been having the opposite problem: I was setting my notifications sounds to be on, as well as vibration and the notif. bar. But I wasn't getting sounds or vibrations.

Playing around with it (before throwing it out the window), I discovered that, if g-mail is your primary mail server, and if you use the Android "mail" widget rather than the G-mail widget, you still need to open the G-mail widget and configure your settings there as well.

So the notification settings in Sounds don't seem to default to my g-mail. What they do apply to is beyond me. And using the "Mail" widget to access my g-mail, and applying those settings, didn't give me back my notifications. Today, when I went into the G-mail widget, I fixed the settings and now everything works. Until I reboot.

Anyway, point of the story is that you might want to check all the various setting options for e-mail, as the notification setting in Sounds, by itself, may not be doing the job.

Nothing like a little redundancy, eh?

BTW - the reason I use the Mail widget rather than G-Mail, is that l can do a batch delete on Mail, but can't figure out how to do it in the direct G-mail app.

By the time I get this phone figured out, it'll be time for my "new after 2".

Superb, I just turned off mail notifications in the actual Gmail app. Hopefully this resolves my issue. I too only use the mail widget.

Batch delete in gmail? Within the gmail app, Menu->Settings. Turn on "Batch operations".

Now each message will have a spot for a checkbox; check a bunch, and you can delete, archive, mark read, mark spam, etc.

How do you batch delete in the mail widget?

Menu -> delete -> menu -> Mark all. Then hit delete.

Tried the g-mail app again, doogald, and I know what you're talking about, but I keep allow batch ops on all the time. But although each post has the check mark, there's no function for "select all" so they can all be deleted. I have to hit the checkbox individually for each post. It's much faster in the Mail app.

ETA: Oops, I see what you guys were suggesting. What I meant to say is the I like to have the option of deleting *all* posts at once, rather than having to click in the check box. I'm damn lazy, wouldn't you say?

But I have to turn off all notifications for the G-mail app or I'll get double notifications, vibrations and sounds.

I have the encrypted lock screen because of the Exchange account I've associated it with.

When I have the phone in my hand & make a call, afterward, I have full access to the phone - no lock screen.

If I'm using bluetooth - dial from the phone,(have full access to phone features while in the call, hang up from the phone - as soon as the "call ended" screen is up, the phone goes to the lock screen.

Haven't read that anyone else's phone is doing this, but it didn't act like this for me on 1.5.

I'll be taking my phone to the Verizon store today for the silent call issue. I'll let everyone know what they say.

Took me until the weekend to get to the store and I've had a lot on my plate so, sorry for taking so long to report. The Verizon tech told me the only thing they could do was to replace my phone with a refurb for free. So I got my refurb'd Eris and downloaded 2.1 OTA and did a Factory Reset and man... I honestly thought my phone was faster and had good battery before but now it's amazing. If you are having the silent call issue, I highly reccomend taking it in for a refurb and save yourself some headache. Make sure you do the factory reset when you get it , if it has 2.1 already, otherwise download 2.1 first then do the factory reset. I think the phones that have the silent call issue have more than just that as a hardware problem, it's just that the other issues are imperceptable until after you get a refurb.

New bugs to report, which have become more apparent over the past week:

  • Big-time lag, resolved by soft reset.
  • Losing 3G, and even signal, more often
  • The sound setting seems to be reverting to "silent mode" by itself.
  • At start-up, Task Killer is in notification bar, and multiple apps are open. I was neither using the apps, nor were they being used before reboot. I used TK before turning phone off, and in a.m. turned on phone, and had TK in notification bar again, and multiple apps. running.
  • At start-up, I get error message that SD card not found. Hit "confirm" and the error message is gone, and SD working normally.
  • I keep getting a "location" pop-up/disclaimer after reboot.

Why are these problems starting to escalate now, a few weeks after OTA?

(Replacement phone already ordered)

I am not buying in any way, shape, or form that the "silent call" issue is hardware related. No way, no how. If I were to believe that, I'd have to accept that somehow my phone's hardware, and the phones of hundreds (thousands?) of others, magically went bad just by updating the OS. Just not buying it.

And FYI: I never had the "silent call" problem until I did a factory reset.

I've got 4 Eris users in the house, all got the OTA from verizon at different times and did the upgrade.
Everybody is complaining how slow it is compared to 1.5.
Mine has some very annoying problems since the upgrade:
-Can't always call from contact list
-Phone rings once and goes to voice mail every time, I've missed just about every call that comes in when the screen is locked.
-Unlocking the screen is 50/50 sometimes it just doesn't take the swipe, also the same with turning off the alarm
-SMS sometimes goes missing. I'll be typing a msg and then it goes to the menu screen, then when I go back to the msg, it's gone and I have to start over.
-Very slow opening my exchange email, also wishing that when I'm finished reading the current email, it will automatically mark it as read. Instead, I have to go to the list, open it again and then it gets marked as read.
-Camera takes forever to start before I can take a pic, also very slow to send the pic out on email or SMS
-I've lost my clock, just gone and now I have an alternate, but I'm missing the old one.
-Can't understand why the calendar gets opened, I rarely use it and it's not on a screen at all
-Never get a full bars signal strength, but do get 3G
-Browser is slow, even with WIFI on

Any ideas? Am I missing something fundamental?

Did you already try a factory reset?
http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/80233-factory-data-reset-option.html

That works wonders for some people after the upgrade.

If you're still having the "Camera takes forever to start before I can take a pic" bug after the factory reset, that sounds like a problem you could show Verizon to illustrate that there's something wrong with your phone.

I got the update in early May (Virginia) and my biggest complaint about it is that the OS now uses about 80% of available memory on my Eris (I use the HTC Sense UI). This causes many apps to crash or force close. In general, this low memory state makes everything run very slowly.

Then there are some annoying new nuances, including...

  1. The phone doesn't ring right away on incoming calls. If I am listening to Pandora or Last.fm, it can take up to 30 seconds from the time the music stops to the time the incoming call rings and the display shows the incoming call. First time this happened I thought Pandora had just crashed. Of course, first reaction is to press the red cell phone button, which hangs up the incoming call before you even know that's what's going on. So now I just wait up to 30 seconds when this happens to see if there's a call coming in. This is just unacceptable performance IMHO.
  2. Tapping a link in an email causes the browser to appear for a fraction of a second, then it disappears. A second tap of the same link opens the browser window and the page load is already in progress (weird).
  3. Another very annoying new issue is that the keyboard doesn't always open when a text entry box on a web page is tapped. You can get the KB to appear in such cases by touch/hold in the box, which makes this an annoyance and not a show-stopper. It doesn't always happen, but one page it DOES always happen on is the default Google search page. You'd think they'd have tested that one at a minimum.
  4. One change that makes no sense to me is that the status bar in the HTC weather app is no longer a link to accuweather.com like it was in 1.5. Not a big deal for me since I wasn't that thrilled with accuweather's mobile format anyway. But I still used it from time to time.
  5. The default list for the phone (button) used to be call history. Now I am not sure what order those names/numbers are in.
  6. On some incoming calls, the photo of the person doesn't show when the screen finally updates to show the call coming in. Instead I just see the default avatar for unknowns or contacts with no photo. This may be related to 1 above.
In general I can't tell much difference in the GUI other than the main settings page is prettier and Market is nicer (includes screen previews). So to summarize from a usability perspective... no real improvement (except for Market), slower performance, and lots of crashes and force closes. Why they thought this thing was ready to push is beyond me. I may just revert to 1.5, which was at least stable and allowed me to run multiple apps without being so sluggish.

Does anyone know if the main memory can be increased on this phone?

BLuetooth is still buggy. Doesn't always remember settings for individual devices, and doesn't auto reconnect every time. The app called''Mail'' almost never notifies (unchecking the download at start option seems to have fixed that, mostly). In the Webkit browser, double tapping a text block still doesn't zoom and center like it should. STill capitolizes consecutive letters. Keyboard forgets the T9 settings every time for certain activities.

ALso, weird but nbd, 1.5 showed very little album art in the player, leak 1 showed album art for almost every song, and OTA shows almost none.
