Review: htc.EVOlution's Evo 4G, Seidio Innocase II, Screen Protectors, Programs

where i am not finding it
Camera/Camcorder:
Here's a link with some pictures I took from the Evo (http://androidforums.com/786291-post264.html). These pictures clearly show how good the quality is. Some are a little off focus, but I'm pretty sure that if I decide to give it a little more effort, I can probably do better in taking pictures.

HDMI Impression:

Battery:

Battery! Battery! Battery!~~~~ Tell me more about the battery!

People keep asking me about battery life on the forums. They also pm me questions about the battery. Now I'm here to explain a little about the battery life. My explanation does not determine how much battery life you use. Nor does it accurate state how long the battery will last per charge. I use my Sprint 4G phone in California, where 4G is currently not available in my location yet. And because of this reason, my 4G connection is turned off. With this turned off it doesn't accurately show the battery life for those who are in 4G location and would like to be using 4G data connection at all times. I'm okay with the data connection at 3G speeds and will deal with that until 4G is available in my area. With this in mind, you save some battery life by just using 3G connection.

I also turned off some other functions. I turned off bluetooth since I don't use bluetooth. I also turn off wifi since I have no need for it. I have Advance Task Killer app installed on my phone so that it will automatically kill off the programs that aren't needed. This can save some battery life also.

So after factoring in all the information above, I browse the web, talk, text message, and bunch of other stuff. I can last probably 24 hrs on moderate use. If I decide to use it heavily, I've been able to discharge the whole phone in 5 hrs.

these pictures reminded me of a question I have...so, on the Palm Pre there are no "grooves" where the screen meets the side of the phone and after looking at these pictures it kind of looks like the Evo has the same seamless design whereas my Hero had grooves all over the place and was a huge dust collector. is the Evo seamless where the screen meets the side of the phone?

also, thanks for yours and htcevolution's reviews the last week, you guys have really put a lot of effort into this forum.

So you're saying that from a full charge, you then had 5 hours of non-stop usage and then the phone was dead? If so, that's pretty good assuming idle battery usage is very minimal. I'm coming from the iPhone world and I get about 5 hours of usage on my phone per charge, but thats with about 10 hours of standby. Could you tell us what kind of battery life you get on pure standby? Maybe record what battery % you are at before you go to bed and then check when you wake up?

Thanks for the excellent review.

Great thread!

Two questions for when your Seidio arrives:
1. Can you slide the EVO into your pocket with the Seidio case (or is it sticky like rubber)?
2. If price is not an issue, would you still get this case? Thanks!

I've used a friend's iPhone with a Seidio. 1) You can put it in your pocket as it was no thicker or clumsy than other hard rubber case. It felt sturdy enough to survive accidental drops, but you still needed a screen cover. 2) He recommended the case to me for the Evo when it comes out. He said he'd get another no question and no other products even came close. Based on my short use of his phone, I'd agree. It was a nice, quality setup.

He had the version with the case and clip combo.

There is a little gap between the bezel and the glass. it could possibly trap a little bit of dust. So far, i haven't had the problem.

also i'm htc.EVOlution! hmmm.... :p

Their cases are rubberized, but I don't think it will be a major problem when your trying to slide it in your pocket. I will comment on these two questions when I get the case.

Doing the battery test tonight and give you answers tomorrow! ATK (Advance task killer) does help though.
I've already preordered that SEIDO case too, the back looks like it could possibly be thick enough to offset the cam sticking out like a sore thumb in the back. I'm really hoping it does that, but if not hey it's still protection for the phone. I need a Steinheil SP ASAP though.
glad you did. please check back for reviews. also i need a Steinheil too!

That's a great review!!! I too have grown to be a big fan of HTC....not you but the company lol.
you know you love me!
Oh and thanks for mentioning the Appbrain. You cleared alot of things up.
No problem. I thought I write about it since it's such a useful program.
does the Evo have a auto speakerphone function to where if you put the phone on its face it will automatically put it on speakerphone?
haven't seen it.

Thanks, I will give this a try. Not that I would need it, but doesn't hurt to use it.
