Help 16GB Galaxy S

I would not for one minute believe handtec on this 16GB model being sold SIM Free.

I also saw their advertisement a few days back and spoke with Chris Love at Clove about it.
He contacted Samsung to query this and confirmed what handtec are showing is not allowed under Samsungs contract to sellers.
Sellers can only sell the 8GB model SIM Free.
The 16GB model is going exclusively to carriers for contract.

I challenged handtec yesterday and asked them to explain why they were showing the 16GB model SIM Free.
Despite receiving a Ticket Number they have failed to come back to me with an answer.

Why don't you raise a Ticket Number with them yourself and ask the same question..... I and am sure Clove would be interested to hear their comments. :)

'I have looked further into this and it seems the 8GB version will be available sim free whilst the 16GB as you have correctly stated is going to be a contract only or an EU spec device so unfortunately we will be unable to obtain this.'

Just to add to the information mentioned previously i have enquired about the situation with the 16gb versions and we are aware, that as with the Omnia range, sometimes the contract models like the 16gb version may make its way into a sim free format so i would advise keeping an eye out for this.'

So I might wait a while and see it the 16GB model appears as a sim-free

It is understood that it will be possible to purchase the 16GB version of the handset somewhere. I suspect that many people who are perfectly happy with their handset and who want to stay with the same network who will elect to take a free or reduced cost handset upgrade in exchange for a contract period extension solely to get the handset to sell on new for a profit on eBay. It's easy enough to get it unlocked if you go the legal route and pay the network operator, and de-branding it of all the operator specific extras (which are invariably only there to annoy you) is only going to be a matter of time.

There are always ways to get around restrictive practise, as the RIAA and MPAA have discovered. If they can't stop people doing what they want, then Vodafone and Samsung don't stand a gnat's chance in hell of preventing people from getting their hands on one of the higher spec models.

I see the 8GB model is listed in India witha pre-order price of 28,000 rupees, just over
