How many of you paid full price for your Evo?

for me i need two lines.. i cant give up my pro2 (and that nice physical keyboard) and i get to have the evo... so best of both worlds. being with sprint long term does have some perks.. im 12 years in with them and i have 4 lines with 3 being phones (the other airave which i get for free) and i do not have to pay for the extra phone lines under the plan.

pull what off exactly?

the airave? i have poor voice reception in my area. sprint foots the bill for that

the 2 lines? being a premier customer in good standing with over a decade of doing business with them is all i have... i didnt threaten.. just asked them what they could do for me.. thats what they did... FYI i have always had at least 2 lines with them for about 8 years (one a phone and the other a mobile broadband card) so having multiple lines is nothing new to my acct...

How did you pull that off?

I paid $400 for one on Craigslist and like a total f'ing moron I didn't insist on checking the ESN before forking over the cash. Chick booked it and left me with a stolen phone.

Reported to the police and they (of course) confiscated the phone. So I'm out $400 and don't even have a paperweight to show for it.

Wish I had just paid the extra $70 at the store. :(

Never, ever buy something you need a 3rd party to activate on craigslist. That site is a haven for thieves. You better believe I would leave no stone unturned in my quest to find her

Here is some advice for the people considering paying full price for the evo. I called today to see what sprint would do to help me upgrade. What was weird is my call went straight to retentions even though I press 0 to get a rep. Anyway though, the rep pushed my upgrade date from Oct 1st to Aug 1st. He said that they just ok'd people to upgrade 60 days ahead of time due to the popularity. He should have said due to the amount of money we will be making on all these evo's and the additional $10.00, we have seen it important to get people to buy it as soon as possible. I am not complaining and will have mine soon. I am going to wait till august and hope that best buy has some additional coupon or something. I got my hero for $125 30 days after it dropped.

Give it a shot guys. If they say they don't know what your talking about, ask for management to confirm.

I paid full price at the Sprint store today. Went yesterday and the system was down. I offered to pay full retail then but they said they couldn't do anything b/c the system was down. I had to drive an hour again today to get it. Paid full price with no upgrade fee and got 25% off accessories. Still have upgrade eligibility for Sept of this year. I'll use that for my wife :)

They told me even though I would be paying retail, there would be a upgrade fee for turning the phone on. I asked if I could turn it on myself and she said no. From what your saying, I realize that she was wrong. She was kinda hot so I might of drifted in and out here and there.

I've bought and sold a lot of stuff, including several phones, on Craigslist -- this is the first time I've had an issue. Was in a rush and let my guard down like a moron.

I was smart enough at least to walk around the back of her car instead of in front and memorized her licence plate number before we met. Reported it to the police -- the licence plate matched the car, so there's really no reason that the police shouldn't be able to catch her. Whether they will bother though is another thing.

Hopefully they do -- if not I gave up the Evo for nothing. At least if I had kept it I could have used it as a glorified iPod Touch.

If they were doing 60 days in advance, I may have gotten my upgrade because mine is due in August. Poop.

I called Sprint a few days ago (just before the release) and they said they would only push my upgrade two weeks to mid-September. Maybe I'll try calling them again.

Yikes...

My contract period ended at the end of Jan (SERO with Centro). I had been eager to go Android by that time and knew nada about Evo on the horizon, so I re-upped at the end of Feb for the Hero, with my $150 upgrade credit and the $100 mail-in rebate.

I haven't a chance in hell for getting any kind of deal now, have I? Even if I re-up to the unlimited everything plan? (I've got SERO again, which is about the same price with only 500 mins...I'm not much of a phone yakker, even for biz.)

:(

You'd be lucky if they cut you a deal on the Evo with you just getting the Hero a few months back. I've been with Sprint for over 8yrs + Premier, tried using that angle, no dice. I wanted the EVO regardless, so full price it was. From reading this thread if your close to a contract end date they might work with you. Billing to the account helps ease the sting of $449, I can sell the Hero and put in some extra hours at work to pay it off.

On an awesome note, the rep told me my phone would show up on Tuesday shipped to my job, my UPS tracking # shows Monday delivery w/Next Day Air Saver shipping!!

I called today and was told that it wasn't any different for the Evo than any other phone -- I'll be eligible to upgrade two months before the end of my contract. I didn't press the issue and try and talk to retentions though.
