Should I Root My Droid Which Has 2.1

You really can't brick your phone. There is always a way out. Well, I guess there is like a .01 percent chance you could, but I have never seen it happen.

Root can bring you many things. One of the biggest for me is overclocking (currently sit quite comfortably at 1Ghz.) The next are things that are not available to you now. Like apps2sd (putting apps on your SD card and thus freeing up space on your internal memory). I don't have that feature, since I prefer Pete's Bugless Beast, but it is available.

Lastly, you will (likely) get Froyo (Android 2.2) before it is ever sent out to Droid users via OTA. There seem to be endless leaks of updated OSes, and the devs are quick to put them out.

**EDIT** This would probably get more responses if you put your post on the root forum rather than the general Droid forum.

Depends on what you want out of your phone.....I personally had wanted to root my phone for quite a while. 2.1 is cool, but I wanted a little more speed. After reading some of the root forums, I decided ( after about 2 months) to give it a try. Veteran rooters, correct me if I am wrong, but once flashing sprecovery, you can always go back to stock. There are many great ROMS out there also. I am loving Petes bugless beast OC'd to 1Ghz. ROM manager is awesome as it has a complete list of ROMS that you can install. Anyways, check out some of these videos on the forum. There are also a couple of videos on droid-life.com, which I followed.

Is there any reason to root my droid if I already have the 2.1 firmware? I am scared to do something wrong and brick my phone. Any suggestions or leave it alone. Thanks.

No, you shouldn't root your phone.

If you are asking whether or not to root, that means two things. First, you haven't read anything about root or what is involved or what it could do. Second, you don't have any reason to root. Don't root your phone just to be part of the "in" crowd. Have a good reason to do so before even considering it. Check the stickies in the root section... read, read, read... then read some more. Might be some interesting stuff in one of the many threads there that could very well sway your decision one way or the other. You might discover you can do things with your phone that you didn't even think was possible... but until you've found a good reason, stay stock.

I am going to addon to what Fade said. Having Root access is a really cool thing. What you can do with your phone is pretty amazing once it is rooted. But, if you are fearful of messing up your phone by rooting your phone then I would say research a lot more until you are completely sure on how to do it and what you want to do with it once it is rooted.

Sure, it is true that it is almost impossible to truly brick your phone with the use of RSD Lite, but chances are that if you are not sure and fear rooting your phone, RSD Lite would probably be a nightmare.

Research it before you root it.

I have not been able to find a good step by step to root my phone. There is no folder in my droid sd card to put the fyro 2.2 into. I no how to make folders and put them on the sd card but not sure what I am exactly suppose to put on the sd card. Can someone post what should be on the sd card and list what should be in what folder and what should be in the root directory of the sd card and give me a good step by step. My phone is a Motorola Droid and it has the latest firmware on it 2.1 with update 1 Can it be upgraded from this firmware or do you have to get it back to the 2.0 firmware first lots of unanswered questions in the step by steps that I had looked at. mypenneys@hotmail.com

Its a pretty painless process and no there is no need at all to go back to 2.0.1.
Go to this link How-To Root your stock 2.1 Droid
This link shows you how to get SPRecovery on your phone.

Then go to http://androidforums.com/all-things...exfro-1-0-1-android-2-2-frf57-6-9-2010-a.html
This Link shows you how to get NexFro (My prefered choice right now)

I don't think anyone really has a REASON to root. I mean really, does anyone NEED to be overclocked or have a different theme? Not really. And just because he asks whether or not to do it, doesn't mean he hasn't read anything. I've read everything there is to read on rooting and know I can do it fairly simply. But I'm still unsure of whether or not I actually want to root. I think I'm going to stay stock until 2.2 comes out. After that, I really don't know.
