My capacitive touchscreen has been having a pretty odd issue. If I lay the phone on a bed or desk and try to use the touchscreen with only one finger, I get all sorts of weird input on the screen. Then, if I touch the phone casing while repeating the same motion with the same finger (anywhere on the side of the casing or rear panel) the touchscreen works flawlessly.

Right now, my device is sitting on my bed, if I unlock it and try to pull down the notification window shade with just one finger, it's impossible. If I touch the casing with another finger and then try to pull down the shade, it's flawless.

From my understanding, in a capacitive touchscreen, a layer of electrons (ions?) is passed over the screen and a sensor detects where the flow of electrons is interrupted by the electrical conductivity of the human body. It seems that my phone is having issues with the electrons not just flowing over the screen, but around the casing as well, causing issues.

Anyone else experiencing this?

same issue with mine, this happened with my hero too, I was just gonna write a thread on this today, I think that is just how capacitive screens are, but I just hold it with my other hand then :p

I know it's not a huge deal, but it is definitely hard to ignore now that I know it's there. Kind of like a dead pixel, you don't notice it for the longest time, but when you know it's there, it's like a giant black dot on your screen. And I just can't help but feel that it's a bit unacceptable to have this happen on these high end devices such as the Incredible, and now the Evo.

I noticed this as well when my Evo was sitting on my bed.

You have a Droid and iPhone and a Evo? you must be playing musical carriers over there. :p;)

Haha, dude, you have no idea. I should clarify that I no longer have the iPhone, but when I did, I did not experience the issue. And one of the perks of being an employee of Best Buy Mobile, you figure out how work around the carriers. Also, concession lines!

I have never had this problem with my Incredible. Did anyone else notice that he was "tapping" the lock screen on the Incredible but "dragging" on the Eris? Tapping doesn't work but dragging (like the instructions say) does.

He wasn't exactly tapping, he was hitting his finger pretty hard on the touch screen and dragging after making contact. He was just being pretty aggressive with the screen to show viewers he wasn't just ever so lightly dragging his finger alone the phone.

I'm just envious. :p I own an iPod Touch as well and have never experienced this issue. So to be pegged as a "capacitive touch screen issue" may not be correct.

I don't want to sound like a whiner here, because I definitely love all the other aspects of the device. I even get really good battery life on it. But I'm worried about the issue persisting in things like the GPS car mount when it comes out, as it looks like Incredible users have the issue too in the mount for their device. Got a ton of use out of my Moto droid + car mount.

Hopefully it doesn't cause issues with the car mount since it only effects like <5% rather then the whole screen on the Incredibles.

Mine seems like a bit more than 5% is effected. I would say just slightly less than half of my screen is unresponsive without another finger touching the case. Around 3/4 of the way up is when it's really bad.
